Crime Statistics Show Decrease in Homicides
Despite these incidents, Milwaukee has seen a decline in homicides compared to the previous year. To date, there have been 139 homicides in the city, which is 66 fewer than at the same time last year, according to the Journal Sentinel’s database.
In October, city leaders highlighted a significant reduction in both homicides and non-fatal shootings in 2024, with decreases of 22% and 23% respectively. These improvements contribute to an overall 4% decline in Part 1 crimes—a category defined by the FBI that includes homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and vehicle theft. Total Part 1 crimes decreased from 19,994 last year to 19,172 this year.
