Detroit MI - Proposed DDOT bus schedule changes take effect June 29, 2026. A virtual hearing was held June 4; feedback deadline June 22.

The City of Detroit says the Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) is proposing “minor” bus schedule and frequency changes that would take effect June 29, 2026. Before that date, DDOT held a virtual public hearing on Thursday, June 4 at 3:00 p.m., and the city accepted rider feedback through June 22, 2026.

If your weekday midday commute or evening/night travel depends on specific routes, the city’s notice includes several route-by-route frequency examples. But it also doesn’t replace the need to re-check posted times close to June 29.

Key dates riders should mark

Thursday, June 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m.: Virtual public hearing (Zoom details were included in the notice).

June 22, 2026: Deadline to submit feedback on the proposed June 29 changes.

June 29, 2026: Proposed effective date for the service changes.

What DDOT says the “minor” changes could include

In the city’s notice, DDOT describes potential updates that may include:

Midday frequency improvements

Span improvements (earlier first trip and later last trip times)

Minor schedule adjustments

Addition of service days

Route highlights from the city’s notice (frequency examples)

Below are examples the city specifically highlights as routes with potential minor changes, including before-and-after frequency numbers:

Route 1 – Vernor: Weekday day/evening frequency improved to every 25–30 minutes (from every 45 minutes), plus minor first/last trip time changes.

Route 6 – Gratiot: Weekday midday frequency improved to every 15 minutes (from every 20 minutes).

Route 9 – Jefferson: Weekday evening/night frequency improved to every 30 minutes (from every 60 minutes), with minor first/last trip time changes.

The notice also points to other routes with schedule and span adjustments (including changes to first/last trip timing). But it doesn’t provide the same frequency “before vs. after” numbers for every route, so riders on those lines should confirm posted times as June 29 approaches.

How to prepare before June 29 (and what to double-check)

Because the notice provides selected examples rather than full, rider-ready timetables for every route, the safest move is to confirm your exact departure times using DDOT’s schedule tools close to the effective date.

DDOT explains that schedules are updated four times per year (including around June). For trip planning and route lookups, DDOT directs riders to use its trip planning/schedule resources.

As an example of where to check posted schedules, riders can view a specific DDOT route’s schedule pages on the transit.det.city site (for instance, the posted timetable for DDOT Route 4 (Woodward)).

If you missed the June 22 feedback deadline

The city’s notice indicates the feedback window for these June 29 proposals closed June 22, 2026. After that, riders can still stay prepared by checking the official posted route schedules and trip-planning updates as June 29 approaches.

Indianapolis IN - IndyGo changes bus service June 14 and launches MyKey+ July 1, so riders should check routes and payment setup before then.

Indianapolis riders have two IndyGo dates to keep straight this summer: June 14 for service changes, then July 1 for the launch of MyKey+.

The deadlines are separate. The June 14 update changes bus routes and frequencies, especially on the East Side and Near Northside. The July 1 change is about fare payment and rider accounts. If your commute, school trip or transfer pattern depends on either system, both dates matter.

What changes on June 14

IndyGo says Route 3 will run every 15 minutes on weekdays between the Julia M. Carson Transit Center and East 46th Street, with alternating trips continuing to Community Hospital North. Route 7 will take over the west-of-CTC portion of current Route 3 service. Route 4 will be retired and replaced by modified Routes 3 and 5.

Route 5 and Route 21 will no longer serve the Carson Transit Center. Instead, transfers will shift near 22nd Street and Meridian Street. Route 28 will move to 30-minute weekday service, while service on parts of Delaware Street, Dr. Andrew J. Brown Avenue, East 42nd Street, Massachusetts Avenue and Brookside avenues will be retired. IndyGo also says the Red Line will be split into separate north and south segments to improve on-time performance during the Fountain Square detours.

For riders, the practical takeaway is simple: the stop, connection or transfer you use now may not be the one you use after June 14. East Side riders, Near Northside riders and anyone connecting through downtown should check their route before leaving home.

What changes on July 1

MyKey+ launches July 1 as IndyGo’s new e-fare system. Riders will be able to open an account through the web portal or app, and smart cards will be available through the Julia M. Carson Transit Center, by phone, or at open houses there in July and August.

IndyGo says MyKey+ will include fare capping, balance protection, a small negative balance option and the ability for multiple riders to use one form of payment. The old MyKey system does not disappear right away: July 31 is the last day to add money to MyKey accounts, Aug. 31 is the last day to use remaining MyKey funds, and Sept. 1 is the date MyKey is no longer accepted.

Also starting July 1, several magnetic-stripe paper passes will no longer be sold at the transit center, online or at ticket vending machines. Two cash-bought passes on the bus — the 2-hour and 1-day passes — will still be available.

What riders should do now

Check your usual route, stop and transfer pattern before June 14. Then review how you pay before July 1, especially if you use a MyKey balance, paper passes or a shared payment setup. The route change and the fare change are separate, and both can affect a regular weekday trip.
