The June action concerns facilitating connections for large users. The July order concerns a joint examination by CAISO and SPP of coordination, market boundaries and reliability and efficiency issues.

What happens next

CAISO and SPP must deliver a joint report to FERC. The approved materials do not specify a filing deadline, and they do not identify the precise remedies the commission may consider after receiving the report.

That leaves the next concrete milestone as the operators’ filing. Until that report and any subsequent FERC action, the order is best understood as a request for a coordinated assessment rather than a final infrastructure mandate or a promise of changes to customer electricity prices.
