Which Santa Clarita seats are up for election?

Registered voters living in District 2, District 4, and District 5 will vote for one councilmember who resides in their district for a four-year term. The City says this is its second by-district election, with voters casting ballots for candidates who live in the same district.

Nomination signatures: the requirement (and why to start early)

Prospective City Council candidates must secure a minimum of 20 and no more than 30 signatures from registered City of Santa Clarita voters within the district they are running in, prior to filing nomination documents.

The City Clerk’s office verifies signatures. The Election FAQs say signatures from unregistered voters (within the City limits) or voters registered outside the candidate’s district will not be counted toward the 20 verified signatures required.

The City Clerk’s Office also recommends candidates consider filing nomination paperwork in advance of the deadline to avoid signature issues. Filing early can provide time to circulate and submit supplemental nomination papers before the deadline.

Statement of Economic Interests: required with candidacy paperwork

Each candidate is also required to file a Statement of Economic Interests disclosing investments and interests in real property at the time the nomination paper is returned for filing.

Where to go during the filing window

The City says nomination documents are made available by appointment beginning July 13, 2026 in the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, Suite 120, located at 23920 Valencia Boulevard. Election office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).

The City advises prospective candidates to call the City Clerk’s Office to schedule appointments for picking up and returning candidacy materials.
