City officials say the schedule is weather-dependent and could change for emergency projects, so residents and commuters should watch for day-to-day updates and posted traffic control.

What crews will do first (and the expected rough timeline)

The city expects work in phases: milling first, followed by cleanup and finishing. The Street Department anticipates the project will take about one week for milling and about one week for cleanup, but noted that weather and emergencies may affect timing.

Milling operations may begin as early as 4:00 a.m. on some days to minimize downtown disruption during normal business hours.

Traffic guidance: one lane open most of the time

To keep downtown moving, the city says one lane of Columbia Street and Ste. Genevieve Avenue will remain open during the milling process at most times. Even then, localized delays are still possible—especially where crews are staging equipment or changing signage.

The city urges drivers to slow down and watch for workers and signage while traveling through the work zone.

Parking limits: where to avoid leaving your car

During the project, parking will be limited along these streets/segments:

• Columbia Street from A Street to Main Street
• Ste. Genevieve Avenue between Main Street and Veterans Drive
• Franklin Street, Washington Street, Henry Street, and Jackson Street between Harrison and Liberty
• Jefferson Street between Columbia Street and Liberty Street

The Street Department says it will place “no parking” signs in the planned work area on the night prior to work. Residents and visitors should avoid parking in areas where those signs are posted.

After paving: striping and crosswalk work follow

When milling is completed, Leadbelt Materials will resurface the streets as soon as practicable. The city says parking, crosswalk, and pavement striping will be completed after the paving work.
