Des Moines residents have until 5 p.m. Aug. 20, 2026, to comment on the Port of Seattle’s draft environmental review for near-term airport projects.

Des Moines residents have more time to weigh in on the Port of Seattle’s airport planning process after the public comment period for a draft environmental impact statement was extended to 5 p.m. Aug. 20, 2026.

The review covers near-term projects in the Port’s Sustainable Airport Master Plan for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The City of Des Moines identifies the plan as a matter that could affect surrounding communities, including Des Moines.

The extended deadline is the immediate change for residents, businesses and other community members following the process. Comments on the draft environmental impact statement will remain open through the new deadline.

What the review covers

The draft environmental impact statement examines potential effects associated with the airport plan and its near-term projects. Issues relevant to surrounding communities include aircraft operations, noise, traffic and other environmental conditions.

Because the document is a draft, the comment period is part of the review process rather than a final approval of airport expansion or a final environmental decision. The final projects to be approved and their ultimate effects on noise or traffic have not been established.

That distinction matters for Des Moines residents evaluating the plan. The current deadline provides an opportunity to respond to the draft analysis while the Port’s review continues; it does not announce a completed project list or a final finding about local impacts.

Where the process stands

Des Moines Library is listed as a location where the draft environmental impact statement can be reviewed. The City of Des Moines, Burien and SeaTac also hosted a public meeting and open house about the process on July 14, 2026.

The three-city meeting was part of the public outreach surrounding the draft review. It gave communities near the airport a scheduled forum during the comment period, while the extended deadline gives residents additional time after that July event to examine the document and prepare comments.

The next known date in the process is 5 p.m. Aug. 20, when the extended public comment period closes. Until then, the Port’s Sustainable Airport Master Plan near-term projects remain under draft environmental review, with potential effects on surrounding communities still being considered.

A proposed 454,000-square-foot warehouse in West Haverstraw has moved forward in environmental review, with a public hearing scheduled for Aug. 12 and written comments accepted through Sept. 10.

A proposed 454,000-square-foot warehouse and distribution center in West Haverstraw has advanced in the environmental-review process after the village Planning Board accepted a Draft Environmental Impact Statement, or DEIS.

The acceptance allows the review to continue. It does not mean the warehouse has been approved.

A public hearing on the project is scheduled for Aug. 12, 2026. Written comments are being accepted through Sept. 10, 2026, giving residents and other members of the Haverstraw-area community a formal opportunity to weigh in before the review proceeds.

What the project could mean locally

The proposed development is in the Village of West Haverstraw, not the incorporated Village of Haverstraw. It would nevertheless directly serve and affect the broader Haverstraw-area community in Rockland County.

The project could bring substantial truck traffic and affect the Route 9 corridor, nearby neighborhoods, emergency response and local infrastructure. The potential effects are not final or quantified in the approved source material; they remain subject to the environmental-review process.

For commuters, nearby residents and local businesses, the Route 9 connection is a central issue because a warehouse and distribution center can generate truck movements associated with deliveries and shipments. The available material does not provide projected truck counts, so the scale of any traffic change cannot yet be stated.

The review also gives residents a process for raising concerns about transportation, neighborhood conditions, infrastructure capacity and emergency response. Comments submitted during the open period will be part of the public opportunity to address the proposal as the review moves forward.

Next dates in the review

The warehouse project’s advancement was reported July 1, 2026, after the Planning Board accepted the DEIS. The hearing and written-comment schedule was reported Aug. 3.

The public hearing is set for Aug. 12, followed by the Sept. 10 deadline for written comments. The source material provided for this report does not identify the hearing venue, the project’s final site address or the developer.

The Village of Haverstraw maintains an official notices and news system at 40 New Main Street in Haverstraw. That municipal identity is separate from West Haverstraw, where the proposed warehouse is located.

Until the environmental review and subsequent municipal decisions are completed, the warehouse remains a proposal. Any final determination about approval, traffic, environmental effects or infrastructure impacts has not been established by the information available here.
