Snow, wind and cold are the main story in Easley today as the city leans into winter weather preparations and neighbors check in on one another.

City steps up for winter storm

City departments are on an elevated footing this weekend, with police, fire and public works staff geared up for potential snow and icy spots on local roads. Officials say crews have equipment and materials staged to address slick areas and to keep key routes open as conditions allow.

The Larry Bagwell Gym at J.B. Red Owens Sports Complex is set to operate as a warming station during normal hours, giving residents a place to get out of the cold if needed. City fire stations are also available during the day as charging locations so people can power phones and small devices in case of outages.

City leaders are coordinating closely with Pickens County agencies, utilities and nonprofits, aiming to keep information flowing through the weekend and to connect residents with help if power or travel problems linger.

Windy, cold but improving conditions today

Forecasts now point to a cold, breezy Saturday, with temperatures topping out in the low 50s after a very chilly start and wind chills running lower than the thermometer. Gusty northwest winds are expected to move through the Upstate, and a regional wind advisory highlights the chance for downed limbs and spotty outages.

Road conditions may still be slick in shaded or elevated areas early, but sunshine and drier air should help improve travel through the day. Overnight lows are expected to fall back into the 20s, keeping refreeze concerns in play into Sunday morning.

What residents can do right now

Residents are encouraged to limit unnecessary travel while winds remain strong and to keep vehicles stocked with cold‑weather basics such as blankets, water and phone chargers. Officials also recommend fully charging phones and backup batteries, protecting exposed pipes and using space heaters only with plenty of clearance and working smoke alarms.
