Two programs, two deadlines

The food-business program is aimed at shared-use commissary kitchens in Orleans Parish. NORA says it is meant to support safe, affordable, code-compliant commercial kitchen space for New Orleans food entrepreneurs, and it is not intended for a kitchen used only by one business. Eligible projects can receive up to $400,000, and applications close August 3, 2026 at 4:30 p.m.

The green-workforce track has a different goal. The city says it is meant to expand job opportunities for underemployed New Orleanians and grow the local green infrastructure industry, including work tied to flooding, drainage and pumping systems. That application deadline is July 31, 2026.

What the kitchen grant can cover

According to NORA, eligible kitchen projects can include electrical, plumbing and mechanical upgrades; ventilation and fire-safety improvements; sanitation work; fixed commercial kitchen equipment; and ADA accessibility improvements. The city says the program responds to the loss of commercial kitchen capacity after Hurricane Ida and the destruction of Edible Enterprises.

That matters for small food businesses that depend on shared production space to launch or grow. Commissary kitchens can be a bottleneck for caterers, packaged-food makers, food trucks and other operators that need a licensed, shared facility before they can scale.

Who the green-job money is for

The green-infrastructure grant is aimed at training providers with a track record in education, certification and job placement. The city describes the work as nature-based and innovative construction solutions that can reduce pressure on New Orleans’ piping, drainage and pumping systems.

In practice, that points to jobs and training connected to stormwater work, drainage projects, water management and similar resilience work already represented in local training programs.

Both rounds are open now, and neither is an automatic award. Applicants still have to meet the eligibility rules and compete for funding. For operators and training providers that fit the criteria, the main issue is timing: the green-workforce deadline arrives first on July 31, followed by the food-kitchen deadline on August 3.
