NDOT is in the second and final season of a two-year U.S. 50 resurfacing project through Stateline, with fiber-optic installation and tentative mid-August work at Cave Rock and Bourne’s Meadow.

Resurfacing and fiber-optic installation are continuing on U.S. 50 through Stateline during the Nevada Department of Transportation’s second and final construction season for a two-year project.

The work affects the route between the U.S. 50/SR 28 intersection and Spooner Summit and the Nevada-California border at Stateline. For residents, casino workers, freight operators and visitors, that means active work zones, shifting traffic patterns and possible delays on the primary east-west route through the area.

What is happening in 2026

NDOT’s 2026 work is the final season of the two-year U.S. 50 repaving effort. The department’s project description also includes installation of a fiber-optic trunk line alongside the transportation work.

NDOT says the fiber line is intended to expand the agency’s communications network and support intelligent transportation systems. The installation may also create a pathway for additional communications services, but the project information does not say that it will immediately provide residential broadband service.

A 2026 NDOT construction map identifies U.S. 50 work from the California-Nevada Stateline to Kings Canyon Road. The map describes roadway and pedestrian-safety work in the project area during June through August 2026.

Tentative mid-August work

NDOT lists work at Cave Rock and Bourne’s Meadow as tentatively scheduled for mid-August 2026. That timing may change because of construction conditions, and the available project information does not provide a final completion date for each work segment near Stateline.

The tentative schedule is not a notice of a full road closure. Drivers should instead watch for posted traffic controls and changing work-zone conditions as crews move through the corridor. The approved project information does not identify a specific closure for Stateline.

How to track updates

NDOT provides signups for construction newsletters and traffic updates for the corridor. Those updates are the best source for schedule changes and specific traffic-management notices as the 2026 construction season continues.

For people traveling to work, moving freight or visiting Lake Tahoe, the practical issue is that conditions can change as resurfacing, safety work and fiber installation proceed. NDOT’s project page identifies 2026 as the project’s second and final construction season, but segment-level completion timing remains unspecified.
