Story County says the Governor issued a disaster proclamation for Story County after the July 2–4 storms, activating Iowa Individual Assistance and Disaster Case Advocacy.

The proclamation was issued on July 6, 2026 and, according to Iowa, it remains in effect for 30 days unless it is terminated or extended.

Step 1: Report flood damage before you move on

Story County is encouraging residents with damage from flood waters to report it using the county’s self-reporter link. Story County says that self-reporter process reports the damage to Emergency Management and the state.

No income requirements and no cost: Iowa says Disaster Case Advocacy has no income eligibility requirements and no cost.

Advocacy window: Iowa says the program closes 180 days from the date of the governor’s proclamation.

Important caution: Iowa also warns that if a Presidential Disaster Declaration for Individual Assistance is issued for the same county and event, the Iowa state program is automatically canceled for that county (because the federal program then takes effect).
