During the June 27 weekend of Alan Jackson’s final concert at Nissan Stadium, 78,433 hotel rooms were sold countywide, according to figures from the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. Downtown hotel occupancy reached 98%.

The concert corresponded with the strongest downtown hotel result among the three summer comparisons reviewed here. The data does not establish that Jackson’s show alone caused all of the room sales or occupancy, but it shows a clear hotel-demand surge during the weekend of the Nashville finale.

Downtown occupancy was 92.5% on July 4 and 89.4% during CMA Fest, according to the same NCVC data reported by Axios Nashville.

CMA Fest produced the largest reported spending total

CMA Fest ran June 4-7 across downtown Nashville, including outdoor stages, Fan Fair X at Music City Center and nightly shows at Nissan Stadium. The Country Music Association estimated that 100,000 fans attended each day.

Axios reported that the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. estimated CMA Fest visitor spending at $93 million, up from an estimated $86 million the previous year. That is an estimate of visitor spending connected to the festival, not city tax revenue, business profit or money received directly by every Nashville resident.

The festival’s footprint spread demand across hotels, restaurants, bars, shops, transportation providers and temporary event operations. For residents and workers, that can mean more customers and shifts, but also heavier pedestrian traffic, parking pressure and slower travel through central Nashville.

Let Freedom Sing drew the largest reported crowd estimate

Let Freedom Sing took place in downtown Nashville on July 3-4 as a free America 250 celebration presented by the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. The event included multiple stages, live music and a fireworks-and-drone show along the Cumberland River.

Attendance estimates differed by source. Axios, citing NCVC figures, reported about 400,000 attendees and $31.6 million in estimated visitor spending. WSMV reported on July 4 that organizers estimated 500,000 people filled downtown Nashville. Because those figures were reported through different channels and are not independently audited in the available records, they should be treated as estimates rather than an exact count.

The event’s free format made attendance especially broad, drawing local residents as well as visitors. What the numbers mean for Nashville

For downtown hotels, the Alan Jackson weekend was the strongest of the three comparisons on occupancy. For reported visitor spending, CMA Fest led. For reported attendance, Let Freedom Sing led, although the available estimates vary. Those are different measures and should not be treated as an exact apples-to-apples ranking of overall economic impact.

High occupancy can increase demand for hotel employees, rideshare drivers, restaurant and bar staff, entertainers, security workers and other event-related labor. It can also make rooms, parking and transportation harder to find for visitors and residents during peak periods.

Large crowds may bring more customers to downtown businesses, but they can also mean road closures, pedestrian congestion, longer waits and added demands on public safety and cleanup operations.
