The festival has been described as a decades-long Anahuac tradition and an economic driver for the community. The Anahuac Area Chamber of Commerce identifies GATORFEST among the area’s recurring civic and economic activities and promotes economic growth in the Anahuac area.

For businesses and community groups that planned around the annual festival, the cancellation removes a major scheduled gathering from the year’s local activity. Visitors who expected to attend will not have the 2026 event on the calendar.

The cancellation statement frames the decision as a matter of public concern for the Anahuac community. It does not announce a replacement date or provide a detailed reason for the cancellation. Organizers have not identified another date for GATORFEST, leaving the 2026 festival canceled and its future schedule unannounced.

The exhibit is open to artists of all ages. Selected work is scheduled to be displayed at Legacy Commons and the Palmdale Playhouse from Thursday, Sept. 3, through Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026.

Who can apply

Artists of all ages may apply. The city’s application uses four age categories: 12 and younger, 13-17, 18-54, and 55 and older. First-, second- and third-place prizes are scheduled to be awarded in each category.

Applicants may submit up to two original works, and there is no entry fee. Artwork must have been completed within the past three years and must not have been previously exhibited at the Generations Juried Art Exhibit.

Artwork requirements

The city will accept work in any subject matter except nudity and adult-themed content. Each piece must be ready to hang and may not exceed 16 by 24 inches.

Sculptures and other pieces that cannot be hung will not be accepted. Applicants must submit digital images of their artwork, and the application says images must be at least 300 dpi. Artists should confirm that their work meets the city’s size, age, originality, content and hanging requirements before applying.

Upcoming dates

The submission deadline is Aug. 10. The city plans to notify applicants by email no later than Monday, Aug. 17, about whether their artwork has been accepted for exhibition.

Artists whose work is accepted must bring it to the Palmdale Playhouse on Monday, Aug. 31, between noon and 7 p.m. A representative may deliver the artwork if the artist is unavailable.

The exhibit is scheduled to run at Legacy Commons and the Palmdale Playhouse from Sept. 3 through Oct. 1. Those are planned display dates; no artwork should be described as accepted before the city’s notification deadline.

• Southbound Marguerite: closed (the map also notes limited access for a gas station from southbound Marguerite and “only access” corridors around the area).
• La Paz westbound: closed at Veterans Way.
• Only-access directions near Estanciero: the map labels “Only Access from Estanciero” (including access through the Village Center area) and other restricted access points around the staging/start area.

Bottom line: even though the main closure window was 8:30 a.m.–12 p.m., the City’s guidance said impacts could begin by 6 a.m., so residents planning early-morning trips were directed to use alternate routes well ahead of the peak window.

Where to park (spectators vs. parade participants) + shuttle timing

The City separated parking and shuttles based on whether you were there as a spectator or as a parade participant:

For families planning outdoor programs around Harrisburg, DCNR says “Outdoors for All Day in Harrisburg” at Italian Lake Park was postponed. The event listing says it was originally scheduled for July 18 and has been moved to Saturday, August 8, 2026.

DCNR’s update ties the rescheduling to projected inclement weather and poor air quality.

Timing to watch: smoke may linger into Saturday morning

The National Weather Service’s air quality alert messaging says wildfire-smoke PM was expected to persist at levels consistent with an Air Quality Index ranging from Unhealthy (Red Alert) to Very Unhealthy (Purple Alert) Friday night into Saturday morning, with improvement beginning Saturday afternoon.

That’s why the simplest step is to check AirNow before heading out—especially for kids, older adults, and anyone with asthma or other respiratory conditions.

Kanawha Blvd (Clendenin St to Hale St) — closed all day. The City says destinations on Kanawha Blvd between Pennsylvania Ave and Clendenin St will remain accessible via Pennsylvania Ave or Virginia St, but access via Clendenin St will not be available.

Summers St (Summers St Parking Garage to Lee St) — closed all day. The City notes the Summers St Parking Garage is accessible from Quarrier St. It also says on-street parking is not permitted along this closed segment.

Morning commute impact: Firecracker 5K restrictions (7 AM through end of race)

The City’s traffic notice lists a staged Kanawha Blvd limit for the Firecracker 5K:

• 7 AM through the end of the Firecracker 5K: Kanawha Blvd (Pennsylvania Ave to Patrick St) is restricted.
• Residents/Businesses on the Blvd can access homes/businesses with assistance of CPD.
• Vehicles parked on Kanawha Blvd can exit with assistance of CPD.
• Firecracker 5K starts: 8 AM.

The posted race route is: Kanawha Blvd at Magic Island >> Hills Plaza (Big Lots Parking Lot) to turn around >> return via Kanawha Blvd.

Afternoon closure for the funeral parade

For the funeral parade period, the City lists:

Boaters: Kanawha River safety zone notice

The U.S. Coast Guard NAVCEN broadcast notice states a temporary safety zone for the Charleston Sternwheel Regatta on the Kanawha River between MM 58 to MM 59. The notice lists two time windows: 10:45 am to 3:30 pm, pausing, then 9:15 pm and ending at 10:00 pm local time on July 5th, 2026.

The notice also says entry into the safety zone is prohibited unless authorized by the COTP Sector OHV, and it notes communications/on-scene standing-by by local and federal responders.

The City of Norman reports it remains in emergency response. Crews are assessing, assisting, and repairing issues across the city, but the City says there are currently no estimated times of repair to share.

Traffic-signal outages: treat blacked-out signals as all-way stops

Multiple intersections have traffic signals that are blacked out. The City instructs residents to treat these intersections as all-way stops until repairs are made.

As of noon July 5, the City reported more than 40 intersections were blacked out due to signal damage and/or power outages.

The City says it is aware of residential concerns regarding debris cleanup, and that a citywide assessment must be carried out before a debris cleanup plan is formed and shared with the community. City crews are clearing public rights-of-way and prioritizing major section line roads. The City also says crews cannot assist with debris clearing on private property.

How to report storm debris (non-emergency): use the Action Center

Call 911 only for life-threatening emergencies. For debris obstructing public spaces, the City directs residents to report issues through the Norman Action Center during business hours.

The Action Center page says requests can be submitted via the online form, by phone at 405-366-5396, or by email, and that submissions should include the address or closest intersection plus a detailed description (photos can be included). The Action Center is monitored 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).

Impacted events and sites: NFourth Fest and Westwood Park

The City says the 2026 NFourth Fest fireworks finale has been rescheduled and is now slated for July 10, 2026.

The City also reports that Westwood Park and amenities at 2400 Westport Drive will be closed on July 5, 2026, and July 6, 2026, due to damages sustained during the storm.

Power restoration and safety guidance from OG&E

OG&E’s Storm Center reports that crews are making progress restoring service and that full power restoration may require 3–4 days in some areas. For Cleveland County, OG&E says it expects to be fully restored by late Tuesday evening.

OG&E also urges residents to stay away from storm-impacted areas so crews can work safely. Its guidance includes:

• Assume any downed power line is hazardous and may be energized. Stay away and do not drive over a downed line.
• Report a downed power line by calling 800-522-6870.
• Vegetation crews will take tree and brush debris from a customer’s yard to the curb, but debris removal from the customer’s property is the customer’s responsibility.

OG&E’s Storm Center also notes specific downed-line locations it says are owned/maintained by Oklahoma Electric Cooperative (OEC), including a downed power line across I-35 in the Norman area and another at 36th Ave NW and W Main.
