The alert is the kind of “label check” problem that can be easy to miss at the grocery store: the recall applies only to specific products identified by expiration dates from November 2028 through May 2029, and only when the dairy allergen is not listed on the label.

What changed: undeclared milk allergen in some OLA-OLA POUNDED YAM

According to the FDA recall notice, Fayus Inc. (doing business as Yusol International Foods) initiated the recall because some packaged OLA-OLA POUNDED YAM may contain milk in the form of sodium caseinate that is not declared on the product label.

The company attributes the problem to a temporary breakdown in its production and packaging process. FDA says no illnesses or injuries have been reported to date related to this issue.

Which product to check right now

FDA says the recalled product is packaged in a clear bag and can be identified by the expiration dates printed on the front:

• November 2028 through May 2029

Crucially, FDA says this recall only applies to products with those expiration dates when the dairy allergen is not listed. In other words, not every bag of Ola-Ola pounded yam is part of this recall.

Where the product was distributed

FDA reports that OLA-OLA POUNDED YAM was distributed through outlets between December 2025 and May 2026 in:

• California
• Georgia
• Illinois
• New Jersey
• New York
• Texas

FDA also notes distribution in Canada and Australia.

Who is at highest risk

FDA highlights that people with a milk allergy or severe milk sensitivity face the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they eat the affected product.

What to do if you bought it

If you have a milk allergy or severe sensitivity, FDA says you should not consume the affected product.

Instead, FDA says you can return it to the place of purchase for:

• an exchange for a correctly labeled product, or
• a warning-sticker–labeled replacement.

FDA also reports that Fayus Inc. is working to apply dairy allergen warning stickers to affected products that remain on store shelves.
