Pittsford school construction is moving forward after voters approved a $48.7 million tax-neutral capital project in March. Mental-health suites, transportation facilities and other work remain underway.

Construction and facility improvements are continuing across Pittsford Central School District after residents approved a $48.7 million capital project described by the district as tax-neutral.

Voters approved the project on March 5, 2026, by a vote of 751 to 121. The referendum drew 872 total voters. The work is intended to address building-condition, repair, upgrade and modernization needs across district facilities, while construction continues into the 2026-27 school year.

Work underway at Pittsford schools

The district’s August update reports that new mental-health suites are progressing at Allen Creek Elementary School and Jefferson Road Elementary School. The update does not say that either suite is open or operational, so the spaces remain part of the ongoing construction work.

The transportation and maintenance facility’s fuel-tank project is nearing completion, according to the district. The update does not provide a project-wide completion percentage or a detailed construction calendar for 2026-27.

For students, families and staff, the work means that school facilities and operations will continue to be affected as projects advance. The approved project is focused on district infrastructure, rather than a new tax levy; the district’s description of the referendum as tax-neutral does not establish that taxes could never change under future conditions.

Transportation changes add a current safety focus

The district also has a new transportation director. The Board of Education appointed Jay Ballard at its July 14, 2026, meeting, with the appointment effective July 27.

Pittsford Schools is partnering with the Monroe County School Bus Safety Program and BusPatrol on stop-arm enforcement technology. The approved information identifies the partnership and technology effort, but does not specify the enforcement process or say that BusPatrol issues citations.

That transportation work gives families a current practical issue to follow alongside the construction: how the district and its partners will use the technology to address safety around stopped school buses.

Next major milestone

The district’s larger 2023 capital work includes an addition at Mendon High School. The addition is targeted to open in January 2027, providing the next dated milestone identified in the district’s updates.

As work continues, the district has reported specific progress at Allen Creek, Jefferson Road and the transportation and maintenance facility, but has not published a single completion estimate for the full $48.7 million project.

Pittsford says a calculation error overstated the refuse-district portion of 2026 bills by $1.28. Pay as issued; an automatic credit goes next year.

The Village of Pittsford says it found a calculation error on the refuse district portion of residents’ 2026 tax bills: that refuse charge was overstated by $1.28.

In a June 2026 resident notice, the Village said the issue can’t be fixed by re-issuing corrected bills because Pittsford tax bills are prepared and issued through Monroe County.

What the Village says happened

The notice says the calculation error affected the “refuse district charge” on the 2026 bill residents recently received.

Board action after the June 2, 2026 meeting

Following a public meeting held on June 2, 2026, the Pittsford Board of Trustees unanimously approved a resolution to address the problem.

What residents should do now

The Village asks residents to pay the 2026 tax bill as issued. Officials say the correction will be handled through the credit process, not by an immediate bill replacement.

Specifically, the Village says it will automatically apply a $1.28 refuse district credit to next year’s tax bill.

What to watch for on next year’s bill

For the practical next step, residents should check next year’s tax bill to confirm the refuse district line/item reflects the $1.28 credit.

If you have questions, the notice directs residents to contact Village Hall at (585) 586-4332.
