Indiana DNR says Kil-So-Quah Recreation Area campground at J.E. Roush Lake in Huntington closes indefinitely June 29, 2026 at 2 p.m. ET.

Indiana DNR is closing the Kil-So-Quah Recreation Area campground at J.E. Roush Lake Fish & Wildlife Area indefinitely, effective June 29, 2026 at 2 p.m. ET. The closure affects the campground specifically; DNR says the remainder of the J.E. Roush Lake Fish & Wildlife Area remains open.

The property address listed by DNR is 517 N Warren Road, Huntington, IN 46750.

What’s closing — and when

DNR’s J.E. Roush Lake Fish & Wildlife Area alerts say the Kil-So-Quah Recreation Area campground will close indefinitely on June 29, 2026 at 2 p.m. ET. DNR says the decision follows an evaluation that included public safety considerations and maintenance needs.

What stays open at J.E. Roush Lake

Even after the campground shuts down, DNR says the remainder of J.E. Roush Lake Fish & Wildlife Area remains open and is “ready to welcome visitors.”

DNR’s property map shows Kil-So-Quah as the recreation area that includes the boat ramp area and the campground entrance within the larger J.E. Roush Lake FWA footprint.

Where DNR points campers to go instead

DNR says campers can continue at nearby Indiana DNR properties, including:

Salamonie Lake

Mississinewa Lake

Ouabache State Park

Chain O’Lakes State Park

Check access alerts before you go

DNR also lists flooding-related access updates on the same J.E. Roush Lake Fish & Wildlife Area page, including:

The North boat ramp is closed due to flooding; DNR says to use the South boat ramp for access.

The comfort station and dump station will remain open.

The River Road loop around Unit 21 is closed due to flooding.

For the most up-to-date access/closure information, DNR directs visitors to contact the property at 260-468-2165.

Webb City will host a June 4 screening of “Cardinal Valley: A Restoration Story,” with a Q&A and reception after the film on mine-reclamation work.

Webb City will host the premiere of “Cardinal Valley: A Restoration Story” on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Route 66 Movie Theater.

The short film focuses on the Cardinal Valley Habitat Restoration Project and the mine-reclamation and compost work behind it. KRPS says the documentary shows how Webb City used compost to restore prairie on land damaged by mining, while a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service restoration plan describes a broader effort to rebuild prairie and wetland habitat on remediated mine land near Webb City.

The screening is set for 6:30 p.m. at 24 S. Main Street and will be followed by a Q&A and a reception. Tickets are listed at $10. A guided walk through Cardinal Valley is scheduled before the premiere, and the reception is planned across the street at Somewhere in Time Bookshop.

The Webb City Sentinel preview says the project has involved the city, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. For residents who want a quick look at the reclamation work behind Cardinal Valley, the premiere offers a public introduction before and after the film.
