One Cathedral City station shows the range

A 7-Eleven at 69123 Ramon Road lists regular gasoline at $5.499 a gallon and diesel at $6.499. The station says its fuel prices are updated within 24 hours. Those numbers are a single-station snapshot, not a citywide average, but they show why drivers can see different prices within a short distance.

For a 15-gallon fill-up, the difference between the iExit sampled low and the Ramon Road regular price is roughly $12. The comparable difference for a 25-gallon diesel fill-up is about $20. Those gaps can matter to commuters who fill frequently and to contractors, landscapers, delivery operators and repair companies running larger tanks.

Riverside-area prices are higher than earlier checks

AAA’s Riverside-area average, which provides regional context rather than a Cathedral City-specific figure, stood at $5.596 for regular gasoline and $6.967 for diesel on July 30, 2026. Regular gasoline was $5.495 a week earlier, $5.261 a month earlier and $4.311 a year earlier. Diesel was $6.817 a week earlier, $6.481 a month earlier and $5.067 a year earlier.

That puts the Riverside-area average about 10 cents higher for regular gas and 15 cents higher for diesel than a week earlier. Compared with a month ago, the increases are about 34 cents for regular and 49 cents for diesel. The year-over-year difference is larger, especially for diesel.

For Cathedral City households, the immediate effect is higher commuting and weekend-travel costs. Businesses may also face added operating pressure when fuel is part of every service call, delivery route, food order or maintenance run. The local station-to-station spread means checking prices before filling up may be worthwhile, particularly for drivers buying diesel in larger quantities.

The City Council agreed to extend the development agreement for the proposed project from its current 2032 deadline to 2052. The extension was requested by Robson Resort Communities, which is reportedly in talks to acquire the property and said it would need the longer timeline before pursuing the project.

The site remains largely undeveloped. It covers about 1,183 acres near Dillon Road and Fargo Canyon Road, in unincorporated Riverside County adjacent to the northern edge of Indio.

What Citrus Ranch could include

The existing Citrus Ranch Specific Plan and environmental-review record describe a project with up to 3,075 homes, a golf course, trails, a community center, open-space areas and related infrastructure. The state record also identifies the property as an unincorporated area adjacent to Indio and lists future steps including pre-zoning, a sphere-of-influence change and annexation.

Those details describe the existing plan. They are not a guarantee that all of the homes, amenities or infrastructure will be built.

Why construction is not imminent

A July 22 report by The Desert Sun said a Robson representative told the council that the project would require more than $100 million in initial infrastructure spending. That figure was attributed to the developer’s representative and is not a final independently verified project cost.

Water and sewer service are among the biggest unresolved issues. The property is within the Coachella Valley Water District’s territory, but the Robson representative said connecting to the district’s system could require roughly 24 miles of pipe and a lift station, making that option economically infeasible for the project. Robson was described as searching for another possible water provider.

The project would also need electrical facilities, financing, a viable development agreement and a completed property transaction. Future construction would require additional land-use, utility and building approvals.

Why residents are watching

If it is eventually built, Citrus Ranch could add thousands of homes and a major new recreational development near northern Indio. That could affect housing supply, traffic, utility demand, water use and the edge of the Indio Hills.

Those possible benefits come with unresolved questions. Residents who spoke during the July 15 meeting raised concerns about the project’s scale, luxury-oriented design, water consumption and environmental effects. A public notice identified Ordinance No. 1842 as introduced and adopted on first reading on July 15. The notice does not establish that the ordinance has received final adoption. Health officials urge preparation before Thursday

Riverside University Health System has advised residents to drink fluids even when they are not thirsty, stay in air conditioning or another cool location, avoid strenuous outdoor activity, use shade and take regular rest breaks.

Those who must work or spend time outdoors should plan for water, shade and cooling breaks before the warning begins. Parents and caregivers should consider cooler indoor alternatives for children’s activities, while commuters and outdoor exercisers should avoid the hottest periods when possible.

Health officials also recommend checking on older relatives, children, neighbors who live alone and people who may lack reliable air conditioning. Pets also need attention during periods of extreme heat.

Know the signs of heat illness

Heat exhaustion can include headache, nausea, dizziness, weakness, thirst, heavy sweating and irritability. Anyone showing those symptoms should be moved to a cool or shaded place and monitored closely. Seek medical help if symptoms worsen or do not improve.

Confusion, loss of consciousness, hot skin or seizures can signal heat stroke. Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Call 911 immediately and do not wait for symptoms to improve.

The Celebration Fire started at approximately 1:45 p.m. on July 23, 2026. CAL FIRE reported that crews reached 100% containment at about 9:37 p.m. the same day.
