The exercise involved multiple local, regional and state law-enforcement agencies, as well as emergency responders. The district said there was no active threat to Crockett High School or the surrounding community. The training was designed to strengthen emergency preparedness, improve coordination among participating agencies and reinforce school-safety practices before students return for the new school year.

Families should review the district’s updated schedule notice when planning arrival, dismissal and other weekday routines for 2026-27. The next dated opportunity for families to prepare for the school year is Aug. 6, when Crockett ISD will hold Meet the Teacher campus visits from 4 to 6 p.m. The Back to School Extravaganza is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. that day. The campus visits will give families time to visit schools and meet teachers, while the community event will provide another back-to-school preparation opportunity. Crockett ISD’s updated schedule notice and event information are posted through the district’s public updates.

Middle schools will start at 9:15 a.m. and dismiss at 4 p.m. White Bear Lake Area High School will run from 8:20 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. The district describes the adjustments as minor and says they are intended to make bus operations more efficient while reducing transportation-related delays and disruptions.

For families, the change means new arrival and pickup windows at the district’s middle schools and regular high school. The announcement does not provide the previous secondary-school schedules, so it does not establish the exact size of the shift from the current timetable.

Which schools are changing hours

The announced change is limited to the district’s middle schools and regular high school. The Area Learning Center/Manitou Campus will keep its 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. schedule and is not being placed on the regular high-school timetable.

Elementary schedules also will remain unchanged. Matoska International will operate from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Other elementary schools will run from 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

The district has not provided an expected savings figure or stated how many students will be affected. The transportation rationale is operational: White Bear Lake’s transportation department serves more than 3,400 bus-stop locations each day across a 45-square-mile community.

Transportation information is due in August

High-school families have a separate step to watch for before the new schedule takes effect. The district says high-school transportation information is scheduled to be posted in student information profiles by Aug. 25, 2026.

Eligible high-school students must register for transportation. The registration requirement means the schedule announcement does not establish that every high-school student or family will receive bus service; eligibility and registration rules still apply.

The July 12 announcement establishes the school-day hours for 2026-27, while the Aug. 25 posting is the next stated deadline for high-school transportation information. Families can use the posted schedules to plan around the revised start times, dismissal times and transportation details once those details are available.

Mid-Del announced the schedule in a July 15 update about Senate Bill 1481. The district says elementary students will have a longer school day because of Oklahoma State Department of Education guidance on how recess counts toward instructional time for the 2026-27 school year.

New Mid-Del schedule times

• Elementary schools: Buses arrive and breakfast begins at 8:15 a.m. School starts at 8:40 a.m., and dismissal is at 3:50 p.m.
• Middle schools: Buses arrive and breakfast begins at 7:45 a.m. Classes start at 8:25 a.m., and dismissal is at 3:20 p.m.

The district says the elementary schedule change also affects middle-school transportation and breakfast timing. Families should check their assigned routes and school-specific transportation information before the first day.

What the new law requires

Senate Bill 1481 requires 40 minutes of recess each school day for students in full-day kindergarten through fifth grade. The law allows schools to divide the time into two 20-minute periods. It defines recess as supervised, unstructured play and prohibits schools from removing recess as a form of discipline.

The law establishes the recess requirement, but it does not require every Oklahoma district to add exactly 20 minutes to its school day. Mid-Del says OSDE guidance requires the district to deduct 20 minutes from its instructional-time calculation for 2026-27. The district says it is adding 20 minutes to the elementary day to accommodate the mandate while following that guidance.

What families should plan for

For elementary families, the 8:40 a.m. start and 3:50 p.m. dismissal will change the timing of morning drop-offs, afternoon pickups and after-school activities. A later dismissal may require families to revisit child-care arrangements, work schedules or who is available for pickup.

The 8:15 a.m. bus arrival and breakfast start also matter for students who use school transportation or rely on breakfast at school. Middle-school families will need to account for the earlier 7:45 a.m. bus and breakfast schedule, even though middle-school students are not the grades covered by the 40-minute recess mandate.

Before August 12, families should confirm bus details, breakfast availability, before-school care, after-school care and pickup plans. The schedule announced by Mid-Del applies to the district’s 2026-27 school year and should not be assumed to match the schedules used by other Oklahoma school districts.
