What travelers and property users should expect

UTA says residents, businesses, cyclists, pedestrians and other travelers may encounter temporary lane closures, detours, sidewalk or pedestrian-route adjustments, construction activity, noise, dust and lighting associated with the work.

Driveway, business and property access may change periodically. UTA says access will be maintained whenever possible, but that does not guarantee every driveway, entrance or pedestrian route will remain continuously accessible. People traveling to businesses, residences or medical appointments in the area should follow posted directions and check for changing conditions.

UTA also says Parley’s Trail is expected to remain open during construction, although temporary reroutes may occur near active work zones.

S-Line service will continue, with possible interruptions

The S-Line streetcar will continue operating during construction, according to UTA. The agency cautions that brief service interruptions may occur for upgrades, and riders should monitor UTA service alerts for planned disruptions or changes.

Extension includes a new station near Highland Drive

The 1100 East closure is part of a larger project that will extend the streetcar approximately one-quarter mile across Highland Drive and add a station near Highland Drive and Simpson Avenue.

UTA says the planned station is intended to serve the Sugar House business district and the University of Utah Sugar House Health Center. UTA’s project announcement says construction is expected to be completed in fall 2027, while Salt Lake City’s District 7 page says service is anticipated to begin in late 2027. Those are projections, not guaranteed completion or opening dates.
