Vandergrift Borough announced a July 6 improvement project involving the Columbia Avenue parking-lot and sidewalk area and a drainage pipe on Fourth Street.

Vandergrift Borough has announced an improvement project for the Columbia Avenue parking-lot and sidewalk area and a drainage pipe on Fourth Street, with work scheduled to begin July 6, 2026. The borough is coordinating the project with the Westmoreland County Conservation District. The project notice was posted on the official Vandergrift Borough website, which identifies both locations within the borough.

The Columbia Avenue work covers the parking-lot and sidewalk area, while the Fourth Street work involves the drainage pipe. For residents, pedestrians, nearby businesses and drivers, those are the two named work areas in the municipal notice. The stated purpose is to address drainage and public-access conditions. The notice does not announce a specific street closure, detour or other traffic restriction, so those practical impacts remain unclear.

The official borough notice does not provide a project cost, contractor or projected completion date. The available record also does not include a final completion report, and it does not establish that the work is finished. No later status update is available in the record. The next known step is the scheduled start of work on July 6.

Vandergrift property owners with known lead or galvanized service lines can submit an agreement for a free replacement, but funding will not cover every eligible line.

Vandergrift property owners with known lead or galvanized water service lines can seek a replacement at no charge through a regional Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County program. But available funding is limited, and submitting an agreement does not guarantee that a particular line will be replaced.

MAWC’s program covers eight communities in its service area, including Vandergrift, and is backed by an approximately $10 million PennVEST grant-and-loan package. The initial funding is expected to cover about 1,000 service lines, while approximately 3,000 lead or galvanized lines are believed to exist across the project area.

How Vandergrift residents can enroll

Property owners who know their building has a lead or galvanized service line should submit MAWC’s right-of-entry agreement to seek participation. The agreement gives the authority and its contractor permission to inspect the property and, if the line is selected, complete the replacement work.

MAWC also allows customers to submit a photo showing the service line where it enters through an interior wall or floor. The photo is optional, but the authority says it can help verify service-line information when records for a property are incomplete.

Residents who need a paper agreement can contact MAWC by email or phone. The authority’s instructions identify its customer service department as the point of contact for enrollment questions and paperwork.

What participation involves

Selected property owners should expect an initial inspection, access to the home or business, and coordination with the construction schedule. MAWC says the inspection should take less than 30 minutes and will be scheduled within 30 days after the authority receives the access agreement. The property owner or an adult designee must be available for the inspection and construction work.

The replacement is intended to be free for participating property owners selected through the program. MAWC says crews may need to enter the building, temporarily shut off water, and restrict access to a driveway or parking area if the service line runs beneath it. Work is generally expected to take no more than one day, although complications could extend the schedule.

Vandergrift does not have a firm construction date

The broader project schedule runs from June 2026 through December 2028. MAWC’s current rollout begins with Hyde Park, East Vandergrift, West Leechburg and North Vandergrift before the authority evaluates which communities can be reached next with the remaining funds.

Vandergrift residents can enroll now, but they should not assume that construction has begun locally or that signing up establishes a work date. MAWC says the program will pause when the current funding is spent unless additional money is secured.

For Vandergrift homeowners and business owners, the practical next step is to verify the service-line material if possible, submit the right-of-entry agreement, and monitor MAWC updates. Enrollment puts a property into consideration; it does not promise selection or replacement.

Fueland on River Road lists regular at $3.05 and diesel at $4.29, with regular easing since the last check and diesel roughly flat to slightly lower.

Fueland at 2232 River Rd in Vandergrift is listing regular gasoline at $3.05 a gallon and diesel at $4.29. Regular is down about 20 cents from the last same-site check, while diesel is roughly flat to slightly lower.

That leaves regular about $1.29 under Pennsylvania’s AAA average and about $1.11 below the national average. Diesel is about $1.41 under Pennsylvania’s average and about $1.06 below the EIA’s latest U.S. on-highway diesel price.

The spread between regular and diesel at this station is $1.24 a gallon. That matters for commuters, households, contractors, delivery drivers, pickup and van owners, and small businesses that fuel up every day.

MapQuest says the listing was updated three weeks ago, so treat these as posted prices rather than a live pump feed. Even so, they give Vandergrift drivers a practical benchmark before they choose a fill-up stop on River Road or compare prices elsewhere around town.

A 15-gallon regular fill-up works out to about $45.75 before taxes and station-specific fees. Diesel users will feel the higher operating cost faster on work vehicles, especially when routes and service calls add up over the week.

If you are seeing a higher or lower pump price around Vandergrift, send it in. The most useful fuel watch stories come from real station-by-station price checks.

AAA’s latest check shows regular gas and diesel both easing in Pennsylvania, but Vandergrift-area pumps still keep fill-ups costly for commuters and fleets.

Regular gas eased in the latest AAA check, but Vandergrift drivers are still facing prices that can bite into a weekly commute. AAA’s June 1 Pennsylvania average for regular was $4.481, down from $4.496 yesterday and $4.605 a week ago. Even with that drop, it is still above the month-ago level of $4.417 and far above the year-ago mark of $3.255. The national regular average was lower at $4.322.

Diesel also moved lower, and it remains the bigger strain for trucks, contractors, delivery fleets, and small businesses that run on fuel day after day. Pennsylvania diesel averaged $5.803 on June 1, down from $5.821 yesterday and $5.891 a week ago. It was also below the month-ago average of $5.972, but still well above the year-ago figure of $3.931. The U.S. diesel average stood at $5.448.

Local station listings around Vandergrift still show why the beat matters. Nearby regular prices were listed in the mid-$4.60s to high-$4.70s, with an average near $4.75. Diesel listings were clustered around $5.79 to $5.99, averaging about $5.95. That is the kind of spread that can change a fill-up for commuters, parent carpools, service calls, landscaping crews, and delivery routes that do not get much flexibility on where or when to buy.

For residents, the key comparison is simple: Vandergrift-area regular prices are still above the Pennsylvania average, and diesel is hovering close to the state average but remains expensive enough to pressure operating budgets. For local business owners, that means fuel receipts are still worth watching alongside payroll, inventory, and utility bills. For households, even a small drop only helps so much when a full tank still costs more than it did a year ago.

If you are filling up in or near Vandergrift, comparison shopping still matters. The latest state and national AAA figures suggest there is at least some room to save by checking a second station before you pull in.

Readers: share the highest and lowest regular and diesel prices you are seeing around Vandergrift right now.

Vandergrift’s fuel story is still split in two: some nearby regular-gas stops are showing prices in the low $3s, while diesel remains parked near $6.

AAA’s May 10 Pennsylvania average puts regular gasoline at $4.676 a gallon and diesel at $5.970. The national average is $4.522 for regular and $5.647 for diesel. The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s latest weekly update, released May 5, shows U.S. regular gasoline at $4.452 and on-highway diesel at $5.640. That wider backdrop helps explain why the local spread still matters: diesel is holding stubbornly high even when some regular-gas shoppers can still find lower prices by comparing stations.

Regular gas: still room to shop around

Local station listings around Vandergrift still show some regular-gas prices in the low $3s. That is a big gap from the state average and a reminder that drivers who can compare before they pull in may still save a noticeable amount on each fill-up.

For households and commuters, that means the difference between a routine fill-up and a budget-bender can still come down to which station you choose. For weekend travelers, the lower-priced regular options are still worth checking before heading out.

Diesel: the expensive part of the pump stays expensive

Diesel buyers do not have the same cushion. Nearby diesel listings around Vandergrift are clustered between $5.799 and $5.999, with an average near $5.95. That keeps diesel fill-ups far more painful for drivers who burn fuel in volume.

That hits contractors, delivery drivers, landscapers, plumbers, HVAC crews, and small businesses that rely on pickups, vans, box trucks, or heavier equipment. Even a small change in diesel price can ripple through a weekly fuel bill fast, especially for anyone logging a lot of miles across Armstrong and Westmoreland counties.

The practical takeaway is simple: regular-gas drivers around Vandergrift still have a reason to shop around, while diesel users are facing a much tougher bill. If you are filling up locally, the spread between stations still matters.

If you are seeing a higher or lower pump price around Vandergrift, share the number, the station, and the date so other readers can compare notes.

Vandergrift PA Gas & Diesel Watch - Regular is listed at $4.159 on Hancock Street while diesel stays near $6, with AAA and EIA showing a hotter spring market.

Vandergrift’s pump watch is split in two: regular gasoline is still hanging in the mid-$4 range, while diesel remains close to $6. The clearest local anchor is the Sunoco at 600 Hancock St., where regular is listed at $4.159. Nearby regular listings are clustered around $4.10 to $4.16, so drivers are seeing small differences rather than a broad breakout.

Diesel is the bigger burden. Nearby Vandergrift-area diesel listings are sitting around $5.949 to $5.999, which keeps work-truck fill-ups, delivery routes, and other diesel-dependent trips near the $6 mark. That matters most for contractors, local haulers, restaurants receiving deliveries, and anyone who burns through fuel quickly during the week.

How Vandergrift compares

AAA’s Pennsylvania average on May 8 is $4.691 for regular and $5.979 for diesel. That means the Hancock Street regular price is below the state average, while diesel in the Vandergrift area is roughly in line with Pennsylvania.

The national backdrop is moving the same way. AAA’s U.S. average is $4.546 for regular and $5.663 for diesel, and the organization flagged a national average that rose 25 cents for a second straight week. EIA‘s weekly update for the week of May 4 shows U.S. regular gasoline at $4.452 and on-highway diesel at $5.640, up week over week. That broader spring push helps explain why local prices are still elevated even when individual stations differ by only a few cents.

What it means locally

For commuters, the difference between $4.10 and $4.16 is modest on one tank but adds up over repeated fill-ups. For households, small businesses, and workers who commute into bigger job centers, the bigger squeeze comes from diesel: vans, box trucks, farm equipment, and contractor rigs feel even a few cents per gallon quickly. Small price gaps can also matter for families planning weekend travel or local events, because a second stop on the way home may be enough to change the total bill.

If you are tracking prices around Vandergrift, the most useful question is not whether every station matches the same number — they don’t — but which pumps are undercutting the pack and which ones are still charging near $6 for diesel. Share the highest and lowest local pump prices you are seeing, and the best neighborhood bargains can help everyone else plan the next fill-up.
