The work is scheduled to run weather permitting from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on multiple nights this week. The biggest disruptions are expected Tuesday and Wednesday nights, June 23 and 24, when northbound I-79 is scheduled to close and detour at the Route 910/Wexford Exit 73 interchange.

For commuters, nearby businesses, evening workers and residents using Wexford Bayne Road, the practical takeaway is simple: the interchange area may move slowly at night, and Route 910 traffic could see backups when the detour is active.

Night-by-night schedule near Exit 73

PennDOT’s June 18 traffic update lists the following restrictions for the week, all between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. and all weather permitting.

Monday, June 22: Northbound I-79 is expected to be reduced to one lane between the Route 910/Wexford Exit 73 off-ramp and on-ramp for preparatory beam placement work.

Tuesday, June 23: Northbound I-79 is scheduled to close and detour at the Route 910/Wexford Exit 73 interchange for beam placement work.

Wednesday, June 24: Northbound I-79 is again scheduled to close and detour at Exit 73. Southbound I-79 is also expected to be reduced to one lane between the off-ramp and on-ramp at the interchange so crews can mobilize equipment.

PennDOT says additional restrictions are anticipated Thursday and Friday nights, June 25 and 26, but the agency expects to issue a separate release before that work. Drivers should not assume the Tuesday and Wednesday closure pattern will automatically apply later in the week until PennDOT posts the next advisory.

How the northbound detour will work

The posted northbound I-79 detour is short but could still create local delays. Drivers will exit at Route 910/Wexford Exit 73, cross Route 910/Wexford Bayne Road, and re-enter northbound I-79 using the on-ramp.

Because that movement sends highway traffic through the interchange signal area, PennDOT says the traffic signal at Route 910/Wexford Bayne Road will give priority to I-79 travelers during the detour. That means drivers already on Route 910/Wexford Bayne Road should expect delays.

Local and state police are expected to control traffic at signalized intersections during the closures and detours.

Why this matters for local travel

The work is part of PennDOT’s $46.5 million I-79/Route 910 Wexford Interchange project in Franklin Park Borough and Marshall Township. The project area covers I-79 from about 1.5 miles north of the I-79/I-279 split to Mingo Road, with Route 910 work between Nicholson Road and Brandt School Road/VIP Drive.

The larger reconstruction includes a new full offset single-point urban interchange, two new flyover structures over I-79, signal improvements, highway lighting, drainage work, signing, pavement markings and guide rail updates. PennDOT lists construction as having started in August 2025, with a proposed construction end in September 2027.

Franklin Park Borough also notes ongoing Route 910/Wexford Bayne Road restrictions through early August, including lane-configuration changes near the interchange and Nicholson Road. That means this week’s overnight beam work is happening on top of a longer construction pattern that local drivers may already be navigating.

KDKA Radio has reported that the project is intended to address backups tied to drivers using the Wexford exit and encountering the signal near Route 910. For now, though, the immediate issue is the overnight work window: drivers using I-79, Route 910/Wexford Bayne Road, Nicholson Road, Brandt School Road/VIP Drive and nearby access points should leave extra time, especially Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

PennDOT directs travelers to check current road conditions through 511PA and to watch PennDOT advisories for any weather-related changes or additional restriction details later in the week.
