On January 24, a devastating four-alarm fire erupted in the Boston Secor Houses at 3475 Bivona Street, Eastchester. The blaze resulted in one fatality, 15 injuries, and displaced over 175 residents. Samuel Calderon, 55, has been arrested and charged with murder and manslaughter for allegedly igniting the fire. The incident also caused explosions on the 15th and 16th floors, damaging six apartments. The Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
Tragic Shooting in the Bronx
On January 25, a double shooting occurred near West 242nd Street and Broadway. Keon Gill, 44, from Middletown, was fatally shot in the chest, while a 35-year-old man sustained a knee injury. Both victims were transported to St. Barnabas Hospital, where Gill was pronounced dead. The 35-year-old is in stable condition. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. Gill was known for his involvement in local basketball and was fondly remembered by the community.
Midday Robbery at St. James Park
On January 28, a 15-year-old boy was robbed of his jacket in broad daylight at St. James Park, located near 2550 Jerome Avenue. The suspects, two unidentified individuals, threatened the teen and fled the scene on foot. No injuries were reported. The NYPD has released a public appeal for information and is urging anyone with details to contact them.
