Edina’s $106.8 Million Southdale Library Project Advances
The Edina Planning Commission has unanimously approved plans for a new $106.8 million library and art center at 7001 York Ave. S. The project aims to replace the existing 1971 library with a 43,107-square-foot facility and a 16,164-square-foot Edina Art Center. Designed by MSR Design, the new building emphasizes transparency, natural lighting, and green space. Construction is expected to begin soon, with the new facility slated to open in summer 2027. The project will be financed through general obligation bonds.
Bridge Damage Closes Westbound Hwy. 62 Between Richfield and Edina
Westbound lanes of Hwy. 62 between I-35W and Hwy. 100 are closed due to damage sustained by a pedestrian bridge near Rosland Park in Edina. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) reported that the bridge was struck by a vehicle, leading to the closure. Repairs are underway, but the lanes may remain closed for several days. Commuters are advised to seek alternative routes during this period.
