Foley Today: Festivals, Schools and Mardi Gras Fun

Foley heads into the first weekend of February with a full slate of family events, youth sports and school milestones as the city settles into Mardi Gras season.

Festivals and live music around town

Much of today’s activity centers on the city’s parks and entertainment venues. Heritage Park is slated to host the Gumbo and Alabama Slammer Festival late this morning, bringing food vendors, cocktails and live music to the heart of town. Mardi Gras comes to OWA

Just north of downtown, OWA Parks and Resort is leaning fully into Mardi Gras. The Krewe du Kidz masquerade event is planned as a kid-friendly street party, with costumes, music and games stretching through much of the day. The gathering is part of a broader February lineup at OWA that includes parades and themed performances aimed at both locals and out-of-town guests.

City tourism officials see the clustered events as another sign of how Foley’s entertainment district has grown. With festivals at Heritage Park and family activities at OWA happening on the same day, traffic is expected to be brisk around major corridors, but the payoff is more options for residents who want to celebrate close to home.

Schools mark mid-year checkpoints

Friday brought a quieter but important milestone for local families, as Foley Middle School and Foley High School issued third-quarter progress reports. Administrators highlight these mid-year updates as a chance for students and parents to check in on grades before statewide testing and end-of-year exams ramp up.

Looking ahead, both campuses move quickly into a busy stretch. Track and field tryouts, soccer games and other extracurriculars are scheduled over the coming week, part of a spring season that keeps the schools’ fields, gyms and auditoriums in near-constant use. Families are encouraged to watch school calendars for specific start times and any weather-related adjustments.
