Jamestown Daily Briefing – February 7, 2026
Jamestown, NY — February 7, 2026 — Civic firsts, dangerous cold, and a night at The Reg shape today’s local snapshot across government, weather, and arts.
Jamestown Daily Briefing
Here’s a quick look at what’s shaping Jamestown as we start Saturday, February 7.
Historic leadership at City Hall
Regina Brackman has stepped into a history-making role as president of Jamestown City Council, becoming the first Black woman elected to lead the body. She recently presided over her first voting session, describing the moment as exciting and a little nerve-wracking as she took the center seat in council chambers.
Her election comes as Black History Month gets underway, and local civil rights leaders are using the milestone to encourage more residents, especially people of color, to vote and consider public service. Brackman now helps guide decisions that affect roughly 28,000 city residents, from budget priorities to neighborhood quality-of-life issues.
Weather: snow, bitter cold and wind chills
Jamestown wakes up under a Winter Weather Advisory, with an Extreme Cold Warning in effect through Sunday morning. Forecasters expect periods of light snow and gusty winds today, keeping travel slick and visibility reduced at times.
Temperatures are stuck in the teens and low 20s, but winds will make it feel well below zero, especially overnight. Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, dress in layers, check on vulnerable neighbors, and bring pets inside. Drivers should watch for blowing and drifting snow on open stretches of road.
On the arts calendar
Downtown, the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts continued its winter film series Friday night with a screening of “Is This Thing On?”. The movie drew filmgoers to East Third Street despite the cold, part of an ongoing schedule of first-run and specialty titles at the historic venue.
The Reg has additional films lined up this month, including a presentation of “Hamnet” next week. The theater’s mix of movies, live performances, and gallery shows remains a bright spot for residents looking to get out of the house during a long Western New York winter.
