Franklin, IN is waking up to a full slate of community events and a few late-week changes to the city’s public meeting schedule.

Love Local Franklin shopping push underway

A downtown shop-local promotion called Love Local Franklin is running February 6–15, encouraging residents to visit local stores, restaurants and boutiques. Shoppers can enter drawings for prizes when they make purchases at participating businesses, giving merchants a boost in the slow winter stretch while rewarding people for keeping their dollars close to home.

Valentine weekend events fill Saturday

Today’s calendar is packed with Valentine-themed happenings in and around Franklin. Options range from a pet photo shoot at Franklin Meadows that raises money for a local cause to hands-on classes where participants can make cake pops or create their own personal-care items with essential oils. Couples can choose from several date-night fundraisers, including dinner-and-dancing events and a Diamonds & Denim night that combines music, games and an auction to support a nearby school PTO.

Families have plenty to do as well. The Historic Artcraft Theatre is hosting a sponsorship party that previews its upcoming film lineup and offers chances to back individual shows, while trivia nights and themed gatherings around town give kids and adults low-key ways to celebrate the holiday early. Nonprofit groups are also using the weekend to raise money, including a Night of Hope gala benefiting homeless youth in Johnson County.

City boards cancel and reschedule meetings

City officials have posted several updates to the February public-meeting schedule. Next week’s Economic Development Commission meeting set for February 10 has been canceled, and the February 4 meeting of the Board of Zoning Appeals was also called off. A later Technical Review Committee session scheduled for February 19 is already marked as canceled as well.

Residents who follow local development issues will still have chances to engage this month. The Public Art Advisory Commission is slated to meet the morning of February 12, and the Redevelopment Commission plans to gather February 17 to review ongoing projects and incentive agreements. City Council and the Board of Public Works and Safety will hold their regular meetings later in the month, continuing budget, infrastructure and public-safety discussions that shape life in Franklin.

With downtown promotions, charity galas and a busy slate of public meetings, February is off to an active start. Residents who want to stay plugged in can keep an eye on the city’s online meeting portal and the regional events calendar, both of which are updated as new activities are added or schedules change.
