Clinton’s Saturday news roundup touches on traffic, local government, and a few signs of spring activity in and around town.

Manufacturing Drive bridge work continues

A key stretch of Manufacturing Drive remains closed this week as crews rebuild the bridge over Mill Creek. The closure runs from South 21st Street to Valley West Drive and is part of a larger project slated to run through late September. Drivers are being routed to South 14th Street and Highway 30, with signage in place to help move traffic around the work zone.

While through traffic is detoured, businesses along Manufacturing Drive are staying open. Access is being maintained from either South 21st Street or Valley West Drive, so residents can still reach shops, services, and the car wash in that corridor, even if the drive takes a few extra minutes.

Busy week at City Hall

City Hall wrapped up a dense week of meetings focused on budgets, contracts, and civil rights. On Thursday, February 5, council members held both a budget session and a special meeting, alongside a gathering of the local human rights commission. Those discussions feed into the city’s long-term financial and policy planning for the 2026 fiscal year.

On Friday, February 6, a public meeting on collective bargaining was held in the council chambers. Residents who follow employee contracts and labor issues will want to watch for follow-up documents and future agendas as negotiations continue.

New trail and convenience store projects advance

Several legal notices published today point to continued development along the west side of town. One storm-water permit covers construction of a new convenience store with fuel sales near Mill Creek Parkway and Wild Rose Drive. Another covers grading and pavement work for a planned multi-segment bike and pedestrian trail along 13th Avenue North and North 14th Street, tying into Mill Creek and the Mississippi via existing storm sewers.

Both projects fall in line with the city’s broader capital improvement priorities, which emphasize transportation, safety, and quality-of-life upgrades such as trails and park access.

4-H fruit sale and youth calendar

The county extension office’s February update notes that the annual 4-H fruit sale is underway. Orders and money began being accepted on February 6 and must be turned in by the afternoon of February 9, with pickup scheduled for March 2 at the fairgrounds auditorium.

Looking a bit farther ahead, the countywide swine weigh-in for youth exhibitors is set for March 28 at the DeWitt bus barn. Families involved in county fair projects are encouraged to mark their calendars so animals and paperwork are ready on time.
