Middleton Saturday: Library Olympics, arts events and city input
It is a busy winter Saturday in Middleton, with family programs, arts events and a few new chances to weigh in on the city’s future.
Olympics fun at the public library
The public library has turned into a mini Olympic village today, with stories, crafts and games running through the afternoon. Young children can start the morning with a Winter Olympics storytime, followed by make-and-take crafts that celebrate the games. Later, older kids and families are invited for Olympic themed challenges and bingo, with lighthearted competitions and small prizes.
Arts, theater and sports across town
Beyond the library, local venues are offering a full slate of options. A contemplative art workshop on the north side gives residents a chance to slow down and try a guided drawing practice, no experience required. At a local cidery, an afternoon “paint your partner” class blends social time with step-by-step instruction, while a nearby sports complex hosts a free pickleball session in partnership with an area disability group.
In the evening, Middleton High School students continue their run of “Hadestown: Teen Edition” at the performing arts center, bringing a modern musical to the hometown stage. Hockey fans can cap the night at a nearby arena, where the Madison Capitols are scheduled to face Tri-City Storm.
City asks residents to help plan parks and recognize green leaders
City staff are encouraging residents to fill out a new community survey that will guide the 2027–2031 outdoor recreation plan. Feedback will help set priorities for parks, trails and open spaces, and the survey remains open until February 16. Officials say the updated plan will be used to support grants and keep investments focused on safe, accessible, and connected recreation.
At the same time, nominations are open for this year’s Sustainable Middleton Awards, which highlight residents, students, businesses and organizations making local progress on issues like clean energy, water conservation, native landscaping and waste reduction. Applications are being accepted through February 28, with award announcements expected in April.
Police citizens academy announcement coming soon
The police department notes that its next session of the Citizens Academy, a multi-week overview of local police and fire operations, will be announced later this month. The program is open to people who live or work in the city and typically runs one evening a week, offering hands-on demonstrations and time with officers.
