Police and village officials are closing out the first week of February with a mix of crime updates and community planning in Montgomery.

Teen arrested after Douglas Road burglary spree

Montgomery police say a 16-year-old boy is in custody after a series of break-ins at businesses along the village’s east side Douglas Road corridor. Officers reported multiple forced entries and stolen property at commercial locations over the past several weeks.

According to police, extra patrols and a targeted investigation led to the arrest. The teen is being held at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center and faces several counts, including at least one felony burglary charge. Investigators are still working to determine how many cases may ultimately be tied to the suspect.

Police are urging business owners and residents to stay alert, review camera footage, and make sure doors and windows are secured after hours. They also stressed the importance of promptly reporting suspicious activity, saying community tips played a key role in closing the case.

Business community on edge but cooperating

Shop owners along Douglas Road had been on edge as reports of damage and missing merchandise added up. Police say cooperation from those businesses, along with nearby residents, helped them identify patterns and narrow down a suspect more quickly.

Officials describe the arrests as a reminder that even in a generally safe community, commercial corridors can be targets. They are encouraging businesses to consider routine security checks, updated lighting, and coordinated communication with neighboring shops.

Looking ahead: Village meetings and events

The village calendar shows a busy stretch ahead at Village Hall. A Village Board meeting is set for Monday, Feb. 9, followed by Senior Lunch & Bingo on Tuesday, Feb. 10. The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is scheduled to meet Thursday, Feb. 12, with a Committee of the Whole session on Tuesday, Feb. 17.

Later in the month, the Intergovernmental Committee and Village Board are both slated to meet on Monday, Feb. 23. Residents can follow agendas, budget discussions, and other updates through the village’s website and notification tools.
