Germantown Daily: Floodplain Maps, Police Station Plans, and Road Work

Floodplain maps and zoning updated

Village trustees have approved updates to Germantown’s floodplain zoning rules to line up with newly revised federal flood maps that take effect on February 20. The changes adjust where flood risk is shown and will determine which properties fall inside regulated floodplain areas.

Some homeowners who previously obtained letters confirming they were outside the mapped floodplain will see those letters automatically renewed once the new maps take effect, while others may need to submit fresh survey and engineering information to keep or regain that status. Village staff have been asked to prepare clear guidance and templates to help affected property owners understand their options and work through the federal review process.

Village seeks designs for new police building

The village is formally requesting design proposals for a new police department building, a key step toward replacing the current facility. The request for proposals, posted in late January, invites design teams to lay out a modern station that can handle today’s policing needs, improve safety for staff and visitors, and make room for future growth.

The project is still in the early stages, but the move signals that Germantown is preparing for a significant public-safety investment. Residents can expect more discussion at upcoming committee and Village Board meetings as costs, location details, and timelines are refined.

Public meeting set on WIS 167 resurfacing

State transportation officials will host a public involvement meeting on Tuesday, February 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Village Hall to discuss plans to resurface WIS 167 between I-41 and Wasaukee Road. The session is set up as an open house, giving residents a chance to review maps, ask questions, and share feedback on traffic, access, and construction timing.

The project aims to extend the life of this heavily used stretch of highway and address maintenance issues before they become larger problems. Village staff are encouraging nearby residents and regular drivers on that route to stop in and learn what to expect.

Elections and upcoming meetings

The village has confirmed there will be no Spring Primary on February 17. The next local election on the calendar is the Spring Election on April 7, when voters will see the usual mix of local, school, and judicial races.

Looking ahead, Germantown has several public meetings scheduled in February, including Plan Commission and Economic Development Commission sessions on February 9 and 10, and Village Board and committee meetings on February 16 and 18.
