Shelbyville Daily: Cold Advisory, Airport Board, and Weekend Parks Update
Cold morning and busy boards in Shelbyville
A bitter blast is setting the tone for Saturday in Shelbyville, with a cold weather advisory in effect through midday. Wind chills as low as 10 to 15 below zero are possible in parts of the region, and residents are urged to bundle up, limit time outdoors, and keep an eye on older neighbors and pets.
Cold advisory in effect this morning
The alert, issued early this morning, covers portions of east central and southeast Indiana, as well as nearby areas of Kentucky and Ohio, and is set to expire around lunchtime. Officials warn that exposed skin can become dangerously cold in a short time, especially for children heading to morning activities or anyone working outside.
Layers, hats, gloves, and warm footwear are recommended, and drivers are encouraged to keep emergency gear in their vehicles in case of delays.
Aviation Board meets at municipal airport
City government work continued Friday as the Aviation Board’s regular meeting was scheduled for 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Shelbyville Municipal Airport. The agenda, posted online ahead of time, gives residents a chance to follow discussions tied to airport operations and long-term planning.
For those who could not attend in person, agendas and past documents remain available on the city’s agenda portal, part of a broader effort to keep board and commission work accessible to the public.
Weekend at the Civic Center and around town
The Parks and Recreation calendar is busy this weekend. This morning’s Civic Center Open Gym for pickleball runs from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Paul Cross Gymnasium, offering indoor activity on a very cold day.
Families can also keep the Snowman Building Photo Contest in mind, which continues through early March and encourages residents to share photos of their best creations from this winter’s snowfalls.
Looking ahead, the schedule for next week includes a Parks Board meeting on Wednesday afternoon, a Tax Abatement Committee session on Thursday, and the next Common Council meeting set for the evening of Wednesday, February 18, at City Hall. Residents are encouraged to follow these dates, especially anyone interested in local development, incentives, and upcoming ordinances.
