Jacksonville Beach: ‘teen takeover’ investigation after gun violence

Jacksonville Beach police are asking the public for surveillance video and other evidence after a weekend ‘teen takeover’ that authorities say escalated into fights and gunfire near Beach Boulevard and 2nd Street. Officials say multiple teens were injured, and investigators are still working to identify who fired shots and how the crowds formed and moved through the area.

The incident also put nearby businesses and event traffic under pressure, with some storefronts locking down and police working to clear the area and secure several blocks for investigation.

Eastside: four adults shot during overnight street party

On Jacksonville’s Eastside, the Sheriff’s Office says four adults were shot during a street party near Jessie Street and A. Philip Randolph Boulevard early Sunday. Officers responded after a ShotSpotter alert, and all four victims were reported in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives are still seeking suspect information and a motive as they continue to process evidence and interview witnesses.

Traffic: fatal crash closes westbound Beach Boulevard at Hodges

A separate weekend emergency closed all westbound lanes of Beach Boulevard at Hodges Boulevard after a fatal crash late Saturday night. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue confirmed one adult died at the scene, and the closure backed up traffic as crews worked in the roadway.

Weather and safety: city activates overnight warming center

After a sharp cold front, the city opened an overnight warming center at the Legends Center from the night of February 23 into the morning of February 24 for residents without adequate heat. The city also pointed residents to libraries and community centers during business hours, alongside partner shelters for additional cold-weather capacity.

Looking ahead: World of Nations brings downtown road closures

The city’s World of Nations Celebration is scheduled for February 28 and March 1 at Ford on Bay downtown. The event will bring planned road closures around Bay Street, Market Street, and Liberty Street as setup and operations ramp up.
