NYC Daily Brief: Nurses Return, Snow Cleanup Continues, Parking Rules Paused
New York, NY – February 25, 2026 – Nurses head back to NewYork-Presbyterian as snow cleanup continues; ASP rules stay paused through March 1.
1) Nurses set to return to NewYork-Presbyterian, ending a long walkout
Nurses at NewYork-Presbyterian are scheduled to return to work Thursday, formally closing out a strike that stretched for weeks and rippled across the city’s hospital system. The contract ratified by union members includes pay raises over three years, staffing-related provisions, and new language touching workplace safety and technology use.
For patients, the biggest near-term change is a shift back toward normal staffing patterns and fewer temporary replacements. For everyone else, it’s a reminder that health-care labor fights can quickly become citywide disruptions, especially in peak winter illness season.
2) Another round of wintry weather: slick roads and black ice
City emergency officials issued an alert ahead of the Wednesday morning commute, warning that overnight refreezing and light snow could create slippery sidewalks, bridges, and untreated roads. Even modest accumulation can be hazardous when it lands on top of melt-and-freeze conditions.
If you’re out early, build in extra time, watch curb cuts and crosswalks, and expect spotty conditions that change block by block.
3) Sanitation shifts back into snow mode, with collection still catching up
Sanitation officials said crews are continuing cleanup from this week’s major storm while also preparing for additional snow. They noted that plowing and salting operations can slow trash and recycling routes, and the city is prioritizing the most time-sensitive material first.
Residents should follow their regular set-out schedule where possible, but be ready for pickups to arrive later than usual as crews balance snow operations with collection.
4) Alternate side parking remains suspended for snow operations
Transportation officials extended the suspension of alternate side parking rules through Sunday, March 1, to support ongoing snow removal and street clearing. Meter rules remain in effect, so the pause mainly affects street-cleaning moves rather than paid parking.
