Prop 414 Fails, Heat Arrives Early, and Tucson 250 Events Expand

Tucson is waking up to a mix of political decisions, early heat and community celebrations as the week moves forward.

Prop 414 Soundly Defeated

Tucson voters have rejected Proposition 414, a proposed half-cent sales tax increase aimed at funding public safety, housing, technology and emergency response programs.

Unofficial results released Tuesday night show roughly 70% of voters opposed the measure. About a quarter of the city’s registered voters participated in the special election.

City leaders had projected the tax would generate about $80 million annually over 10 years. With the measure failing, officials will now weigh how to address budget pressures ahead of the upcoming fiscal year discussions.

Tucson Hits First 90-Degree Day of 2026

It may only be March, but Tucson has already reached a summer-like milestone. The city recorded its first 90-degree day of the year this week at Tucson International Airport.

While the temperature did not break a record, the early heat is a reminder that warmer days are arriving quickly. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated and begin preparing for the hotter months ahead.

Tucson 250 Events Continue

Celebrations marking 250 years of Tucson’s history are continuing across the city. A series of exhibits and community events are highlighting Tucson’s desert culture and deep-rooted heritage.

One featured exhibit, Tucson 250: Desert Culture and Community, is open through the end of March. Organizers say the anniversary events are designed to spotlight local history while bringing families and visitors together.

With election results settled, temperatures climbing and milestone celebrations underway, Tucson heads into mid-March with plenty to talk about.
