Syracuse Area Health adds psychiatric care July 15 in Syracuse

Syracuse Area Health says Heather Noerrlinger will move into a dedicated psychiatric-mental-health nurse practitioner role on July 15, 2026, expanding behavioral-health access in Syracuse and nearby southeast Nebraska communities.

The announcement, published June 3, says Noerrlinger will provide psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, medication management and ongoing behavioral-health care. Syracuse Area Health said the role will work alongside the counseling and behavioral-health services already available through the system.

Why it matters locally

This is an expansion of an existing service line, not the first behavioral-health offering from Syracuse Area Health. The system launched behavioral-health services in 2024, and the new psychiatric role adds another layer of care inside that program.

That matters in a rural market where behavioral-health access can be limited. HRSA’s 2023 behavioral-health workforce brief says rural counties often have fewer psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, psychologists, social workers and counselors, and it notes that many Americans live in Mental Health Professional Shortage Areas.
