Grapeview Port Reassigns Waterfront Parking, Sets Aug. 18 Meeting

The Port of Grapeview has permanently reassigned parking spaces near its waterfront public restrooms for EMS, law enforcement, staff and other special uses. The port’s notice warns that vehicles parked in those spaces without authorization will be towed.

The change applies to the parking area near the restrooms, not every parking space at the port. Visitors should follow posted signs and avoid spaces marked for the port’s special-use categories.

Overnight parking moves across Grapeview Loop Road

Boaters and kayakers planning overnight trips must use designated spaces in the port’s Auto/Boat Trailer Lot across Grapeview Loop Road. The port says users must obtain a permit in advance.

The parking lot serving the waterfront restrooms is not available for overnight parking. That distinction matters for launch users who may arrive before dawn, return late or leave vehicles while spending time on the water.

The port’s instructions do not say that all waterfront parking is closed to the public. Instead, they identify specific spaces as reserved for operational and emergency-related uses and direct overnight users to a separate designated lot.

Why the change matters during waterfront events

The port’s facilities serve more than boat and kayak launch users. They also include public restrooms, docks and ramps used by visitors and residents during waterfront activities.

That role was visible during the Grapeview Water and Art Festival covered by the Shelton-Mason County Journal on July 23, 2026. The event coverage identified the Port of Grapeview as the provider of restroom facilities, illustrating why clear parking rules can affect visitors during busy community events.

The current reassignment also follows earlier discussion about parking misuse. In January 2025, the Shelton-Mason County Journal reported that the port was discussing the removal of 30-minute parking limits and concerns about how spaces near the restrooms were being used. That earlier discussion provides background, but it is not the official record for the current reassignment.

Next Port of Grapeview meeting is Aug. 18

The Port of Grapeview lists its next regular meeting for 7 p.m. Aug. 18, 2026, at the Mason Benson Center, 5971 E Mason Lake Drive West, Grapeview. The port says in-person attendance is planned, with a Zoom option expected to be posted.

Residents and port users can monitor the meeting information for any discussion of parking, access or port operations. Until then, visitors should rely on posted signs, use the designated overnight lot when applicable, secure the required permit in advance and avoid overnight parking in the restroom lot.
