Lynwood C Line bus bridge ended after July 26-27 I-105 work
Lynwood C Line riders may see more weekend changes as I-105 ExpressLanes construction continues, with August 1-2 listed as an anticipated closure window.
A recent weekend construction project temporarily replaced C Line train service near Lynwood, and Metro riders may see additional service changes as work continues on the I-105 ExpressLanes project.
What happened July 26-27
Metro operated a bus bridge between Lynwood Station and Harbor Freeway Station from 4:00 a.m. Sunday, July 26, through 2:00 a.m. Monday, July 27. The temporary arrangement replaced rail service along that portion of the C Line during the construction window.
Willowbrook/Rosa Parks and Avalon stations were closed during the work period. The disruption did not mean that all Metro service in Lynwood stopped, but riders traveling through the affected segment had to use replacement buses and allow additional time for transfers.
The July 26-27 bus bridge has ended. Metroโs current schedules and service-change tools remain the best way to confirm whether a later trip is affected.
Why the rail service changed
The service change was tied to construction for the I-105 ExpressLanes project. Metro lists the project as being in the construction phase. The work is intended to improve freeway operations and safety, ease congestion and expand ExpressLanes along the I-105 corridor.
Metroโs project page lists estimated completion in 2029. It also says the project will use intermittent extended weekend freeway lane closures from spring 2026 through early 2027.
More weekend changes may follow
Metro project materials identify August 1-2, 2026, as the next anticipated extended weekend closure period. That should be treated as a planned window rather than an unconditional final service plan because construction schedules may change with work progress or weather.
The City of Lynwoodโs traffic alert says work is scheduled from Friday evening, July 31, through Monday morning, August 3. In the Lynwood area, the notice identifies lane closures from State Street to Wilmington Avenue on Sunday, August 2, through Monday morning, along with a westbound Imperial Highway/Wilmington Avenue on-ramp closure.
Metroโs closure notice says a future C Line bus bridge is anticipated between Lynwood Station and Harbor Station during the westbound I-105 work window, but riders should confirm the final arrangement before traveling.
What riders should do
Commuters using the C Line from Lynwood should check Metro advisories and schedules and use the MyBus trip-planning portal before leaving for a weekend trip. A bus bridge can add transfer time and make arrival times less predictable, particularly for riders connecting to work shifts, medical appointments, school activities or other time-sensitive travel.
Riders should not assume that future closures will use the same stations, hours or bus-bridge pattern as the July 26-27 disruption. Metroโs service-change notices are the controlling source for the details of each planned closure.
For Lynwood residents and businesses, the broader takeaway is that I-105 construction may continue to affect both freeway travel and C Line trips on selected weekends. Checking for updated notices before traveling can help riders plan around delays and temporary station closures.
