Fatal I-64 crash near Highway K kills O’Fallon resident
An 18-year-old O’Fallon resident was killed early Sunday, July 19, in a crash on westbound Interstate 64 near Missouri Highway K in St. Charles County, according to a preliminary Missouri State Highway Patrol record.
The crash was reported at about 2:25 a.m. The patrol record says the pedestrian was walking across the westbound lanes when he was fatally struck. He was pronounced dead at 2:36 a.m.
Motorcycle driver hospitalized
The motorcycle driver, a 34-year-old man from Norwood Court, suffered serious injuries. He was taken to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for treatment, according to the patrol record and local reports.
The motorcycle was identified as a 2009 Kawasaki Ninja ZX14. The patrol record lists the motorcycle as totaled and towed from the scene.
Westbound lanes closed for more than three hours
Westbound I-64 was closed while emergency crews and investigators worked at the crash scene. First Alert 4 reported that the interstate reopened at about 6 a.m., more than three hours after the closure began.
The crash location was in St. Charles County near Highway K, separate from the O’Fallon residence listed for the pedestrian.
The online patrol record is preliminary and does not establish fault or provide a final determination about the circumstances of the crash. The available reports do not state whether impairment, speed, visibility or another factor contributed.
