Dyersburg City Schools led Tennessee in 2025-26 TCAP gains

Dyersburg City Schools recorded Tennessee’s largest percentage increase in proficiency across the tested TCAP subjects for 2025-26, according to results released by the Tennessee Department of Education on July 13.

The district’s overall proficiency increased 6.0% from 2024-25 to 2025-26. The result applies to Dyersburg City Schools, the district serving the city of Dyersburg in Dyer County, and does not represent a ranking of all schools in the county.

English language arts showed the largest subject increase

English language arts proficiency increased 7.03% across the district, the largest of the three subject-level gains reported for Dyersburg.

One reported local result was in English 10, where 61.3% of students met or exceeded expectations.

Math and social studies also improved

Mathematics proficiency increased 5.43% across Dyersburg City Schools. Fifth-grade math had a reported proficiency rate of 55.2%.

Social studies proficiency increased 3.85% across the district. Seventh-grade social studies had a reported proficiency rate of 56.2%.

What the comparison includes

The state’s all-subject comparison covers English language arts, mathematics and social studies. Science is not included because the subject was in a standard-setting year.

The Tennessee assessment data portal provides district- and school-level files for reviewing proficiency results by subject and grade. The files also include participation information and assessment details that are important when comparing results across years.

For local families, the results show year-over-year changes in Dyersburg’s tested subjects, with the largest reported subject-level increase in English language arts. They do not, by themselves, explain why scores changed or provide a complete measure of school quality. Student participation, grade-level differences and the broader assessment context also matter.

The 2025-26 results provide a current performance benchmark for Dyersburg City Schools. Future district plans or instructional changes should be considered separately from the assessment results themselves.
