Long Beach Gas Holds Flat as Diesel Edges Higher in Latest AAA Check

Regular gasoline prices held steady while diesel edged higher in the latest AAA price check covering the Los Angeles-Long Beach metro area. AAA listed the snapshot on July 29, 2026. These are metro averages, not a Long Beach-only average or the exact price at every local station.

Regular gasoline averaged $5.701 per gallon, unchanged from the previous day. The metro average was 10.9 cents higher than a week earlier, 24.2 cents higher than a month earlier and $1.236 higher than a year ago.

Diesel continues to move higher

Diesel averaged $7.088 per gallon, up 0.5 cents from the previous day. The metro diesel average was 14.8 cents higher than a week ago, 37.6 cents higher than a month ago and $1.930 higher than a year ago.

The latest metro averages put diesel about $1.39 per gallon above regular gasoline. A 15-gallon gasoline fill-up at the regular-gas average would cost about $85.52 before discounts. A 50-gallon diesel fill-up would cost about $354.40.

Why the difference matters in Long Beach

Gasoline prices are most visible to commuters, households making daily trips and workers who drive to job sites. Higher pump prices can also add pressure to restaurant deliveries, weekend travel and attendance at local events, particularly for households with limited flexibility in their transportation budgets.

Diesel has a more direct effect on trucking, delivery fleets, contractors, landscapers, service companies and port-related freight activity. The price does not determine what any particular Long Beach business charges, but sustained diesel increases can raise operating costs for companies that move goods or use heavy equipment.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration‘s Los Angeles weekly data for the week of July 27 listed regular gasoline at $5.447 per gallon. That figure covers a different geographic and timing measure than AAA’s daily Los Angeles-Long Beach metro snapshot, so it is regional context rather than a Long Beach pump price.

The California Energy Commission says retail gasoline prices reflect components including crude oil, refining and distribution costs, taxes, transportation expenses and state environmental programs. The Associated Press has also reported that higher fuel prices raise transportation costs for businesses nationally, with diesel affecting freight and long-haul trucking in particular.
