Galveston-Texas City Gas Nearly Flat as Diesel Rises

Regular gasoline is holding nearly steady in the Galveston-Texas City metro, while diesel continues to move higher. AAA’s latest price check, dated July 31, lists regular gas at an average of $3.651 per gallon and diesel at $4.902.

Regular gas is almost unchanged from Thursday

AAA shows regular gasoline down three-tenths of a cent from the previous day, when the metro average was $3.654. The broader comparisons point in the other direction: Friday’s average is 1.3 cents higher than a week ago, 26.2 cents higher than a month ago and 87.4 cents higher than a year ago.

That leaves gasoline relatively calm in the short term but substantially higher than the same point last year. For households and commuters, the day-to-day change may be difficult to notice, while the monthly and yearly differences can add up for drivers with long commutes or multiple vehicles.

Diesel moves higher across every comparison window

Diesel is showing a clearer upward move. AAA lists the Galveston-Texas City average at $4.902 per gallon, up 2.3 cents from Thursday’s $4.879 average. Diesel is also 11.9 cents higher than a week ago, 42 cents higher than a month ago and $1.642 higher than a year ago.

The larger diesel increase matters most for contractors, delivery fleets, service companies and other operators that rely on heavier vehicles. Fuel costs can also feed into the expenses of businesses moving food, supplies and equipment, although the available price data does not document how individual Galveston-area businesses are responding.

Gulf Coast comparison

The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s July 28 release provides a broader benchmark for the region. For the week ending July 27, EIA reported a Gulf Coast average of $3.690 for regular gasoline and $5.087 for on-highway diesel. Those figures are regional benchmarks, not Galveston pump prices, and the AAA metro snapshot is more current for local comparison.

For weekend travelers, the practical takeaway is to compare stations before filling up rather than assume every pump is near the metro average. Drivers of gasoline-powered vehicles are seeing a small day-over-day easing, but prices remain higher than earlier comparison points. Diesel users are facing increases across all four AAA comparison windows.
