Erie Gas Averages $4.272 as Diesel Holds Above $5.60

Regular gasoline rose more sharply than diesel in the latest Erie-area price check, with both fuels remaining well above their year-ago averages. AAA’s data, priced as of July 31, 2026, put the Erie metro average at $4.272 per gallon for regular gasoline and $5.607 for diesel.

Regular gas rises in the Erie metro

The Erie metro regular-gas average increased 3.3 cents from the previous day and 4.9 cents from a week earlier. It was also up 37.6 cents from a month earlier and $1.002 from a year earlier, according to the AAA Fuel Prices table.

For commuters and households, that means the regional average was higher across each of those comparison windows. Drivers covering long distances, making school-related trips, running errands or traveling for the weekend may see different prices depending on the station and neighborhood. The AAA figure is a metro average, not a guaranteed price at every station in Erie or nearby communities.

Diesel remains above $5.60

Diesel reached $5.607 per gallon in the same July 31 AAA snapshot. It rose 0.6 cents from the previous day and 1.3 cents from a week earlier, making the short-term movement nearly flat compared with regular gasoline.

Diesel was down 14.5 cents from a month earlier but remained $1.461 higher than a year earlier. That split matters for contractors, delivery operators, farmers and service businesses that use fuel heavily: a monthly easing does not erase the effect of the year-over-year increase.

Erie compared with Pennsylvania and the nation

Pennsylvania’s statewide AAA averages were $4.221 for regular gasoline and $5.587 for diesel on July 31. Erie therefore stood above the statewide average for both fuels.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported national weekly figures of $4.096 for regular gasoline and $5.313 for on-highway diesel for the week of July 27. Those figures provide broader context, but they are not same-day Erie prices and should not be used as a substitute for the local metro averages.
