Philadelphia Gas and Diesel Prices Split: Regular Gas Eases, Diesel Rises on Aug. 1

Philadelphia regular gasoline prices edged lower while diesel moved higher in AAA’s latest local check dated August 1, 2026. The Philadelphia (PA only) average was $4.244 per gallon for regular gas and $5.604 for diesel.

The split gives commuters a small short-term break at the pump, while diesel-dependent businesses face another increase. Both fuels remain substantially more expensive than they were one month and one year earlier.

Regular gas slips from the last check

AAA listed the Philadelphia (PA only) regular-gas average at $4.244 per gallon on August 1. That was 0.4 cents lower than the previous day’s $4.248 average and 1.7 cents below the $4.261 average from a week earlier.

The longer comparisons remain less favorable. The Philadelphia average was 32.0 cents higher than the $3.924 figure from one month earlier and $1.020 above the $3.224 average recorded one year earlier.

At the current average, filling a 15-gallon gasoline tank would cost about $63.66 before station-specific differences, taxes or payment-method pricing are taken into account.

Diesel moves in the opposite direction

Diesel reached $5.604 per gallon in the August 1 AAA Philadelphia (PA only) row, up 0.4 cents from $5.600 the previous day and 1.4 cents from $5.590 a week earlier.

The increase is larger over the past month and year. Diesel was 36.2 cents higher than the $5.242 monthly comparison and $1.627 above the $3.977 average from August 2025.

A 50-gallon diesel fill-up at the Philadelphia average would cost about $280.20, before differences between individual stations. That cost matters more directly for delivery operators, contractors, fleets, service companies and other businesses that depend on diesel-powered vehicles or equipment.

Regional data also showed increases

The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s July 28 release provides broader regional context, but it is not a Philadelphia pump-price substitute. Through July 27, regular gasoline in the East Coast region averaged $3.997 per gallon, up 7.3 cents from the previous week. The Central Atlantic region averaged $4.174, up 7.6 cents.

EIA‘s on-highway diesel figures showed a similar regional increase. The East Coast average reached $5.354, up 16.0 cents from the prior week, while the Central Atlantic average reached $5.579, up 20.9 cents.

What higher fuel costs can mean locally

For households, the current gasoline average can add pressure to commuting, school travel, medical trips and weekend driving budgets even as the latest daily price moves slightly lower. Drivers may see different prices by neighborhood, station brand, fuel grade, loyalty program and payment method.

Diesel costs can work through business expenses in several ways. Contractors may face higher vehicle and equipment costs, delivery operators may spend more on each route, and restaurants and service businesses may see added transportation expenses in supply and delivery operations. Those are practical effects to watch, not documented reactions from specific Philadelphia businesses.

The next local question is whether regular gasoline continues to ease while diesel remains elevated, or whether both prices resume rising. Drivers can reduce the impact by comparing nearby stations before filling up, especially for larger diesel purchases.
