Salinas Gas Rises to $5.778; Diesel Eases to $6.834

Regular gasoline rose in the Salinas metro on Saturday, Aug. 1, while diesel moved slightly lower. AAA’s latest California metro price table lists regular gas at $5.778 per gallon and diesel at $6.834 per gallon.

The two fuel categories are moving differently. Regular gasoline is up about 1.5 cents from Friday’s $5.763 average and about 2.3 cents above the week-ago average of $5.755. Diesel is down about 0.6 cents from Friday’s $6.840 average, but it remains about 1.3 cents higher than its week-ago level of $6.821.

Gasoline remains above last week

For commuters and households, the day-to-day change in regular gasoline is modest, but the average remains above last week’s level. A driver filling a 15-gallon tank would pay roughly $86.67 at the current metro average, before station-specific differences, discounts, or loyalty-program savings.

AAA’s figures are metro averages, not guaranteed prices at every pump in Salinas. Individual stations can vary by location, brand, payment method, and nearby competition, so drivers may find meaningful differences across town and along major travel routes.

Diesel remains important for agriculture and freight

Diesel’s slight daily decline offers limited relief for farm equipment operators, agricultural workers, truckers, contractors, delivery companies, service businesses, and other commercial users. The price is still above the prior week’s average, which can keep pressure on operating costs for farm work, freight movement, construction, maintenance calls, and deliveries.

Fuel is one part of the expense structure for farms, restaurants receiving supplies, contractors traveling between jobs, and companies moving products or equipment. The latest figures do not establish that fuel prices have changed any specific local business’s prices or plans, but they show that diesel remains elevated compared with a week ago.

Salinas remains above the California gas average

AAA lists the California average at $5.652 for regular gasoline and $6.919 for diesel on Aug. 1. Salinas regular gas is therefore about 12.6 cents above the statewide average, while Salinas diesel is about 8.5 cents below it. State and national figures provide context, but the Salinas metro row is the more useful measure for local drivers and businesses.
