Prescott Valley voters have three November vote centers as countywide jail-tax arguments come due

Prescott Valley voters will have three listed vote centers in town for the November 3, 2026, general election. The first immediate deadline tied to a proposed countywide jail-district tax increase arrives Wednesday, August 5, at 5 p.m.

Yavapai County is accepting arguments for or against Proposition 497 until that deadline. The filing period is part of the election-information process; it is not a final decision by voters and does not mean the proposal has passed.

Three vote centers are listed in Prescott Valley

On Election Day, eligible Yavapai County voters may use any county vote center rather than being limited to one assigned polling place. The county’s 2026 list includes these Prescott Valley locations:

Key dates for the November election

Yavapai County’s published general-election schedule sets these deadlines:

• October 5: Last day to register to vote.
• October 7: Early voting begins, and the mail-ballot registration period begins.
• October 23: Last day to request an early ballot by mail.
• October 30: Last day to vote early in person.
• November 3: General Election Day, with vote centers open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

What Proposition 497 would do

Proposition 497 is a Yavapai County Jail District proposal, not a Prescott Valley measure. The proposal would increase the existing jail-district excise, or sales, tax by one-quarter cent per dollar.

According to the county’s official proposition language, the proposed increase would take effect July 1, 2027, if approved, and continue for 20 years. The proposition notice says the Jail District is seeking the increase to fund district operations and cites projected future revenue needs and required county general-fund contributions as part of the district’s stated rationale.

Those financial figures are part of the proposal’s explanatory language. They should not be treated as an independent finding about the county’s finances or as a prediction of the election result.

Why August 5 matters

The August 5 deadline allows people and organizations to submit arguments for publication in voter-information materials. Arguments must be filed with the county elections director by 5 p.m., and the county says a $25 fee applies to submitted arguments. The county’s notice says noncompliant arguments will not be published.

The deadline moves Proposition 497 into the voter-information stage. It does not settle the measure’s outcome. The county’s election office remains the controlling source for later ballot, candidate, write-in and voting-location updates.
