Cleveland job fair will bring about 200 employers downtown on Aug. 14

Cleveland’s city-backed Employment and Resource Success Fair is scheduled to bring about 200 employers and job-seeker support services to downtown on Friday, Aug. 14.

The free fair will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland, 300 Lakeside Ave. E. Organizers expect employers hiring across more than 20 industries, giving job seekers a chance to explore openings and workforce resources in one location.

Employers will cover more than 20 industries

Signal Cleveland reported that about 200 employers currently hiring are expected at the fair. The report said participating employers are scheduled to represent more than 20 industries, including construction, health care, public safety, government, manufacturing and hospitality.

The City of Cleveland describes the event as a way for residents and job seekers to connect with employers, career resources, resume support, legal services and other assistance. The fair is an opportunity to explore jobs and services; attendance does not guarantee employment or an interview.

Transportation, child care and legal support

Planned services are intended to reduce practical barriers that can make it harder for people to attend job fairs or pursue employment. According to Signal Cleveland, the event will offer free parking at the Muni Lot, shuttle service to the convention center, free RTA bus passes and Lyft or Uber transportation assistance.

Other scheduled resources include on-site licensed child care, resume assistance, workforce coaching and a professional clothing boutique. Record-sealing, expungement and other legal assistance also are expected to be available.

Those services could help Cleveland-area job seekers who need support getting to the event, preparing an application, arranging child care, finding professional clothing or addressing a criminal-record issue.

Construction and food-safety training

The fair’s construction component is scheduled to include hands-on demonstrations from Turner Construction Co. and Marous Brothers Construction. Participants will be able to register for free OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 certification training, according to Signal Cleveland.

Limited spaces also are available for Level I Food Safety Certification training. People interested in that opportunity should plan ahead because enrollment may be limited.

What Cleveland job seekers should bring

The City of Cleveland encourages attendees to bring multiple copies of their resumes to share with employers. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged.

The fair runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland, 300 Lakeside Ave. E., Cleveland. Admission is free.
