Topeka Gas Eases to $3.68 While Diesel Rises to $4.90

Regular gasoline prices eased slightly in the Topeka metro while diesel moved higher, according to AAA’s price check dated Aug. 2, 2026.

AAA listed the Topeka metro average for regular gasoline at $3.680 per gallon and diesel at $4.901 per gallon. Those are metro averages, not the price every driver will see at every station, and pump prices can vary by location, payment method and fuel grade.

Regular gas is down slightly in the short term

The Topeka metro regular-gas average was down 0.1 cent from the previous day and down 2.7 cents from the previous week. The modest easing has not erased larger increases over longer periods: the average was up 22.2 cents from one month earlier and up 85.6 cents from one year earlier.

For commuters and households, that means a small amount of short-term relief at the pump, but gasoline remains substantially more expensive than it was last summer. Drivers planning weekend trips or regular cross-town travel may still benefit from comparing nearby stations before filling up.

Diesel continues to climb

Diesel followed the opposite direction in the latest AAA comparison. The Topeka metro average rose 0.3 cent from the previous day and 8.3 cents from the previous week. It was also up 63.1 cents from the previous month and $1.449 from the previous year.

That increase matters beyond the pump. Diesel is commonly used by freight and delivery vehicles, farm equipment, contractor trucks, generators and other work vehicles. Higher diesel costs can add pressure to operating budgets for contractors, delivery operators, service businesses, restaurants making supply runs and farms moving equipment or products.

Broader Midwest context

The latest U.S. Energy Information Administration weekly update, released July 28 using prices from July 27, put the broader Midwest average at $3.882 per gallon for regular gasoline and $5.196 for on-highway diesel. Those figures cover the Midwest region and should not be treated as a same-day Topeka reading, but they provide broader context for the local price trend.

For Topeka drivers, the practical takeaway is that gasoline has eased modestly over the past day and week while diesel remains on a broad upward track across AAA’s monthly and yearly comparisons. Actual prices can differ significantly from the metro average, so checking several nearby pumps may help households and businesses manage fuel costs.
