Corvallis City Council to consider forest stewardship plan Monday
Corvallis City Council is scheduled to consider a proposed 2026 Corvallis Forest Stewardship Plan during its Monday, August 3, meeting.
The plan is the main policy item listed for that meeting. It concerns management of the city-owned Corvallis Forest, including watershed protection, forest resilience and other long-term stewardship policies. The city’s Public Works Department says the plan update was recommended for City Council consideration after a June 17, 2026, task-force vote.
Meeting details
The council’s executive session is scheduled for 5 p.m. Monday in the Council Chambers at the Downtown Fire Station, 400 NW Harrison Boulevard. The city lists the session as closed to the public and scheduled for labor-negotiation deliberations.
The regular council meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the same location. The meeting will be held in person and virtually. The city encourages residents to attend and says the public may register online to watch the meeting live. The published agenda contains the participation and public-comment instructions.
Why the forest plan matters
The Corvallis Forest is connected directly to the city’s drinking-water system through the Rock Creek watershed. The city says Rock Creek and its tributaries provide the source water for the Rock Creek Water Treatment Plant, which filters and disinfects the water before it is delivered to homes and businesses through the city system.
The city also states that the Corvallis Forest protects the Rock Creek watershed and supplies approximately 30% of Corvallis’ annual domestic water. That makes the stewardship-plan discussion relevant to residents beyond forest management, while the city’s published materials do not establish any immediate change to water rates, service or household bills.
The proposed plan includes policies and guidelines for managing forest conditions, protecting water resources, addressing fire risk, supporting habitat and promoting long-term forest resilience. The city’s forest FAQ says the updated plan was developed with a task force and incorporated public input before being sent forward for council consideration.
Decision remains pending
The August 3 agenda lists a resolution concerning adoption of the 2026 Corvallis Forest Stewardship Plan. Councilors could approve the proposal, amend it, delay action or take another action allowed by the agenda and meeting process.
Residents should treat the plan as a proposal until the City Council votes and the city publishes the official meeting record. The city’s three-month schedule is tentative and subject to change.
