Walnut Creek BART Riders Face Higher Parking Rates as Service Changes Near
Walnut Creek BART riders are dealing with a higher parking bill and two separate service developments scheduled for August. The parking increase took effect July 1; overnight Yellow Line work is scheduled for August 4-6, followed by a broader timetable change on August 10.
The Walnut Creek station is at 200 Ygnacio Valley Road. It serves the Antioch-to-SFIA/Millbrae Yellow Line, making the upcoming Contra Costa County work and schedule updates relevant to riders who travel east toward Pittsburg/Bay Point or connect elsewhere in the BART system.
North Garage rates increased July 1
BART’s North Garage daily rate increased from $3.90 to $5 on July 1, adding $1.10 per day for riders who park there.
Single- and multi-day reserved parking increased from $7.80 to $9 per day. Monthly reserved parking remains $136.50.
BART said spring 2026 parking counts showed occupancy above 90% at affected stations and described the Walnut Creek changes as part of its demand-based parking policy.
Parking remains free after 3 p.m. on weekdays and on weekends and holidays, subject to BART’s parking rules. The privately owned South Garage is separately priced at $8 per day. BART parking purchases are not valid there; drivers using that garage must pay through its private operator.
Yellow Line work scheduled August 4-6
BART has scheduled late-night rail work between North Concord and Pittsburg/Bay Point from August 4 through August 6. To create a work area, the agency plans to reduce service from two tracks to one during the work window.
The work is scheduled to begin at midnight and continue until BART service starts the following morning. BART says riders can anticipate delays of about 20 to 25 minutes on the work nights.
The estimate applies to the overnight work period and affected Yellow Line operations. It does not mean every Walnut Creek train will be delayed throughout the day.
Timetable changes begin August 10
A separate BART schedule change takes effect Monday, August 10. Some departure times will shift by a few minutes, so riders who rely on established departure or transfer times should check the new timetable before traveling.
Some of the busiest Yellow Line trains are scheduled to operate with 10 cars during peak periods: eight morning trains and six afternoon trains, compared with nine cars currently. BART began running those longer peak-period trains July 20, and they will continue under the August 10 schedule.
BART says the schedule changes are intended to create more even train spacing, improve selected connections and reduce crowding or delays for some riders. The agency specifically says Antioch riders transferring toward Berkeley, El Cerrito or Richmond will receive a new four-minute transfer at MacArthur, while Yellow Line riders connecting to BART-to-Antioch service at Pittsburg will receive improved timed connections. Riders should not assume every trip will be faster or that every departure will change.
What Walnut Creek riders should check
Daily North Garage users should budget $5 for parking, while reserved single- and multi-day users should budget $9. Monthly reserved customers should see no change in the listed monthly rate.
Late-night riders traveling toward or through the eastern Yellow Line should allow extra time August 4-6. Before August 10, riders should recheck departure times and transfers rather than relying on older schedules.
