The Daily Herald reported that Rand Road under Route 53 would close intermittently for 15-minute periods on Wednesday and Thursday, July 29 and 30, for bridge-deck pours. The same intervals affected the northbound Route 53 exit ramp to Rand Road and the southbound entrance ramp from Rand Road. The report also said additional intermittent Rand Road closures were planned for the following week.

For commuters, the practical effect depends on which connection is restricted. A short crossing stoppage can delay traffic on Rand Road, while a closed entrance or exit ramp can force drivers to approach Route 53 from a different direction even when through traffic remains open.

Route 53 work covers several Palatine-area crossings

The Daily Herald reported that the Dundee Road entrance and exit ramps in the Arlington Heights and Palatine area were scheduled to close from about 7 p.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday for a lane shift. Northbound and southbound Route 53 lanes north of Rand Road were to move to the outside lanes while crews performed storm-sewer crossing work in the inside lanes. Two lanes in each direction were expected to remain open after the shift.

The Village of Palatine separately advised residents that Anderson Drive beneath Route 53 would close in intermittent 15-minute intervals from May 11 through May 15 while bridge beams were erected. The village’s posted detour directed drivers to Wilke Road, the west or east frontage roads and Rand Road.
