Burleson police headquarters expansion remains on track for fall 2027
Construction is advancing on the Burleson Police Department headquarters expansion and remodel, with the city reporting visible structural progress and keeping the project on schedule for completion in fall 2027.
The public-safety project is being built at the existing police headquarters in Burleson. It is not a replacement for the department in a different location. The plan expands the current campus while renovating the existing facility.
What is being built
The project includes a new two-story headquarters totaling 28,170 square feet. The new building will include holding cells and a sally port, a secured area used for vehicle access and transfers.
The city also plans to renovate the existing 24,000-square-foot facility. Two additional asset buildings will add 15,446 square feet combined, along with secured police parking.
Together, the work will substantially change the space available for police operations. The city’s project information identifies the expansion, renovation, asset buildings and secured parking as parts of the same headquarters effort.
Construction progress
Burleson voters approved Proposition B in May 2022 for public-safety facility improvements, including the police headquarters expansion. The project is funded through the voter-approved 2022 bond program.
Construction began in fall 2025 under an estimated 24-month timeline. The city awarded Phase 1 and Phase 2 guaranteed-maximum-price contract work to Byrne Construction Services in 2025. Brinkley Sargent Wiginton is identified among the project entities.
In its March 31, 2026 update, the city reported that foundation and structural work was moving forward. Piers for Buildings C and D had been completed, pier drilling for Building B was nearing completion, and grade-beam work had begun.
The city’s latest project update, dated June 30, 2026, says the work remained on track for a fall 2027 completion. The update describes second-quarter progress, although the accessible project information does not establish a precise percentage of completion.
Project cost and next step
A presentation at the Burleson City Council’s May 4, 2026 regular meeting reported two guaranteed-maximum-price packages totaling $39.7 million. The presentation put the total project budget at more than $46 million.
The reported contract figure and overall budget are different measures. The $39.7 million figure covers the two GMP packages reported in the presentation, while the total project budget exceeds $46 million. The packet does not establish that the full budget has been spent.
The city’s next identified milestone is continued construction toward the fall 2027 completion target. The council meeting also included discussion of project updates, change orders and a capital-plan amendment, but the available information does not establish a current change-order amount.
For Burleson, the project ties a voter-approved capital commitment to the physical capacity of the city’s police headquarters. Its practical effect will be determined as construction continues, the existing facility is renovated and the expanded campus moves toward completion.
